New MOT regs?

It is legal to drive a vehicle without a current MOT to a pre-booked appointment and drive it home after the test even if it has failed.
Yes it is ........but the driver is still subject to prosecution if stopped driving a vehicle with any defects
 
But not legal to drive a vehicle in a dangerous condition, with or without an MOT. as mentioned earlier the tester cant physically stop you from drive it away if he says it is dangerous and should not be driven but you will be breaking the law if you do.
