Anyone bought a new defender chassis recently ?

My 300 tdi 90 has just failed it's mot due to buggered Chassis (not worth welding / repairing). I presume it is still either Marsland or Richards that are the most commonly used ?. Has anyone used any others and if so were they any good ? I have seen sheilder and Terraintech ones as well, but suspiciously they are both using same pictures and same reviews on there websites. Anyone used these or anyone else at the moment. Long lead time on Richards at the moment. Any advice much appreciated. AC

There was someone on here who oredered a shielder chassis a while ago, had a few issues getting it.

Another one for iirc a D2, and the exhaust brackets were on the wrong side. If you do a search then you may get the info in more detail.

Thanks Neilly , I have seen a lot of older posts, just wondered if anyone had used someone recently for more up to date info on latest chassis members are using in there projects.

I recently got a Richard's chassis this year, it was a long lead time but I used this time to get everything sorted in preparation. No problems with it apart from lack of holes for brake line clips which I knew about beforehand.

I ordered from shielder around the start of August. Complete waste of time. Messed around with excuse after excuse. Went back to the bank and got my money back.

Marsland have recently been taken over, changed names, to KD Land Rover. These are who is supplying my current order. Due last weekend, 5 week lead time, but pushed back until next weekend....hopefully!

last one i got was from britpart, its made by one of the two known names,same price and on the shelf whereas when i rang the chassis builders there was a long lead time

My brother and I both used Richards. Brilliant service. Good price and quality product.

Saw Shielder at the LRO show. Bloke was very friendly and also sells Bulkheads.... can’t comment on quality or service. Seems like they are trying to break in to the market.

Thanks Turrican, I was looking at a Richards one as well , but have been quoted around a 10 week lead time. as you say this will give me time to sort things out.

Thanks Mick 1986, I was going to try them as well, but will give Sheilder a wide berth at the moment. I'll give KD L/R a call.

Rimmerbros also supply Richards chassis's and quote a usual 1 week delivery time.

TerrainTech aslo stock Richards chassis's and free delivery and say they offer immediate delivery for most models.

What sort of cost for a Richards Chassis, spoke to Richards 10 week wait £1600 plus vat, According to Rimmerbros site same chassis 1 week wait around £2900 ?

Thanks Scooby22, have you or anyone you know used terraintech for chassis or parts , don't want to get mugged off for £2000

I got mine from Marslands last year couldn't fault the qaulity or service from them.

I went direct through them they said about 4-6 weeks then they called me back as had a cancelation and i got it within a week.


Just noticed that they are now KD Land rover I got mine before they changed.

What sort of price (I was quoted by a garage £2600), also can member of public by direct from them or only trade ?
