Currently rebuilding my D90 200tdi and a replacement/ new chassis is needed.

I’ve looked at Richards, Shielder and Marsland and after seeing two at Peterborough and speaking with a few people I decided on Marsland.

This morning I see online, from a supplier I have used successfully before, a 200tdi chassis, shot blasted and galvanised for half the price of the ones mentioned above. The obvious question is how much of a risk is the “refurbished” one in terms of corrosion internally. Whilst I have not seen the chassis in person I would assume it will look sound and the galvanising will make it look similar to the new ones.

Even with a new galvanised chassis I intend to treat it internally with Buzzweld products so, the same would apply with a refurbished one.

Has anyone got experience of refurbished and galvanised chassis?

Thx Tirran

Like you said, what's the inside like and is it stolen. Does it come with log book or is no ground out? I'd go new marsland even if it is double.

Thanks, these are valid points, which is the dilemma on this one. I am comfortable with the supplier not dealing with hot property as I haven used them before.

If you are going to go to all the trouble of swapping a chassis why use a second hand one?
If you use a second hand chassis then the strict interpretation of DVLA rules say that your Land Rover will need re-registering on a Q plate, IVA testing and will be megga difficult to insure.
If you don't inform DVLA that you have swapped the chassis with a second-hand one and the original VIN number has been removed from the "refurbished" chassis then your re-built vehicle will look like a ringer if the police ever check it.
How do you know that the chassis is not stolen? How can you say that you are comfortable with the supplier just because you have used them before, where do you think stolen Land Rovers go to?
If the "refurbished" chassis has come from a write off is it straight, they do bend.
