Hello all,

I am buying a GPS tracker that has a function to remotely cut the engine of a vehicle when you send a text message to it.
My vehicle is a 1987 Defender 110 with a 300tdi engine swap - is there any way to electronically cut the engine in the same way you could do with a petrol?
I understand you could probably stop it from starting in the first place but it would be nice to be able to cut it while the vehicle is moving though I suspect that as you can drive the vehicle with the battery disconnected this may be impossible.
Thanks,

You're probably right but it is illegal to steal a vehicle also!

they use something that shuts fuel supply, causing the vehicle to behave like it ran out of fuel allowing for a safe pull over to the side of road. They also have a clutch mobilizer thingy that lock the clutch cylinder making it impossible to use the clutch

Not saying it's a bad idea but it might have insurance implications in the event of a theft so worth checking out and being sure.

It'd be a bit galling to find your stolen and damaged Landy half a mile down the road and then have the insurance company refuse to pay out!

Its best to fit two cut off solenoids , one that is relatively easy to find the other that isnt , the scenario is then that vehicle cuts out , criminal thinks , fuel cut off , so finds 1st one , disables it , and goes to carry on , vehicle wont start , tries for a while , hopefully flattening battery , and then gives up as wont think that there would be another fuel cut off , and runs out of time and inclination as now in too hard basket . simples !

option two is a solenoid release spring loaded 6 inch nail under driver seat !!!

re second alternative I am joking :(

Hi was thinking about this the other day the bonnet cable has broke on mine and was going to replace but then thought i would relocate the cable as to slow them opening the bonnet.was going to fab a sheild or plate around the solinod so you can not put a wire on the spade from under neath or from the top.then leave the original solinod wire there but not used and reroute another cable to to the spade on the solinod.all to slow them down with the alarm going. what do you think. appart from to much time on my hands.

Someone I know used to have a customer in SA that had a similar under the driver seat but used shotgun shells!

Obviously he had to remember to deactivate it each time!

If you cause it to immobilise by choice, using a remote device etc... and they have a crash, you could be in a lot of trouble. Loss of brakes/steering etc. There are some cars that do this but they slowly apply the brakes, or reduce engine power so they can't go fast. Not that going fast would be a problem. But you could reduce fool flow so the engine has less power.

If you put it close to the tank the engine isn't going to just stop dead, just like running out of fuel it's going to have to use what's in the pipes and pump and filter etc it's going to fart and pop and struggle for a while before it actually stops can't see the problem really

To answer your question, yes. I have installed a eight chanel relay in to my 300 tdi.
It is designed to remote start, stop, and some other extras. You can install this easily, with the option of bluetooth, infrared, or a couple of other wire less connections.
