does anyone here know of a decent mechanic in the east yorkshire area that aint afraid of gettin dirty under me series? i do not have the know how or the equipment to fix her and she is a lovely example and would be a shame to let her fall by the wayside!

Where are you in East Yorks.. North Yorks might not be to far away and there is an independant garage called Sunset Garage at a place called Ulleskelf just West of Selby which is supposed to be very good with Landies. I have been recommended to them but have not as yet had cause to use them.Apparantley the owner is a military vehicle enthusiast, as indeed he must be as he
has a tank like vehicle standing on his forecourt. Phone is 01937 833365 .

There is also a very good one in Castleford and another in Knottingley, but all these might be too far out of your area.

thanks for the info im near beverley, they would all be close enough i suppose, i saw someone in castleford a few years ago he had a garage down by the river near a little bridge, that is the best way to describe his location i think, just off the road to garforth, he seemed quite good but i dont know if he is still there!
my landy is a series 3 and it just needs a general sorting, it smokes under load heavily and that wants diagnosing and just a few little other bits, its a lovely original example and i would like to get it something like overhauled so i can sell it! if it didnt smoke like it does then i dont think i would have a problem sellin cos she has an overdrive and excellent chassis and bulkhead! bodywork is good apart from a couple of dents and needing a door top, i only want to get it to a point where she would be worth a couple of hundred quid or so, so she just wants someone who knows to look at her! i am a novice and do not have the know how to do very much with her by myself...

I used to live in Cottingham and there is a wee garage there, down by the level crossing (I'm sure I can describe where it is if you are interested). I used the guy a few times for my old cars (pre-land-rover days) so I've no idea if he's a landy expert. He is always busy though and charges a reasonable sum for the work, he is also fair and won't fit/ fix bits that doesn't warrant it. My thinking is that the series motor's are fairly uncomplicated so a decent mechanic will be able to fix it.

The place you mentioned in Castleford sounds like Castleford 4x4 Centre on Lock Lane, run by Carl. Competant, not over the top pricewise and he is a good bloke ton get on with. If you decide to deal with him mention me, Bob from Selby, and he'll look after you. On the other hand, if you're not in too much of a hurry, you could bring your Landy to me to have a look at as I do have a small garage in Selby. We actually specialise in London style cabs but have a Land Rover here which we have virtually rebuilt from boxes of bits, so have a bit of experience with them. Give me a ring if you like, P.M. will get you my number.
