Up **** creek.
just been looking at this stuff *ENGINE RESTORER & LUBRICANT but at 45 quid a pop is it worth it? or can anyone recomend any other decent additives that will help my lovely V8 keep rumbling along or are they all a waste of money? (injector cleaner/oil thickeners/redex etc) cheers.:)

I think injector cleaner is ok but most oil companies do not advise the use of oil addatives,if addatives were any good the oil companies would no doubt make their own or add them to their oils and charge more for the oil,its only my opinion though and someone will be along soon to tell me I`m talking bo**ocks :)

Its snowing here.

They do say that all the additives you need is now in the oil, but i'm old school so still use them from the days of STP and Winns to what I use now ZX1.
Does ZX1 help fuel economy.
When I first used ZX1 in my RRC the tickover revs increased to 1000rpm and had to be turned down, but with the disco the engine ecu took care of any increase so I didn't notice a thing other than a quieter sounding engine.
I also use UCL in a tank full of fuel once a year.

I swear by ZX1 and would not run a vehicle without it

All Cars

Maestro's
Itals
Rovers
MG
Disco

Motor bikes
CBR600
GS500
CB500
RD400
Royal Enfield
XL500
Bike chains last 15000 miles instead of 10000

Sad story

I went to France with family on one of those camping holidays, being first time abroad and new car I kept record of fuel used and mileage covered
Year after went again to same area, but with ZX1 in, again fuel and mileage recorded
On return and comparison of two years, 26 miles difference between year totals. In 2500 miles I had paid for ZX1 twice over and that saving goes on for 25000 miles

Oh and in a bike it makes one hell of a difference in acceleration and mpg and emissions

Put it in the gearbox and diffs, eases the gear changes, and protects diffs / CV joints in case water gets in

As I said I'm converted and its the first add on to any vehicle I get

best thing is add it when engine warm and running, the difference in engine noise is amazing

Sorry might sound like an advert, but I think it is THAT good:car:

£18 from Halfords well worth it, QVC do a pack when its on with wd 40 equivalent spray gun. bargain!

I would say spend a bit more on quality oil and keep to the intervals (i change oil every 5k), and that should be all you need. If you car is running well and you are using quality fuel, you shouldn't need injector cleaners either.

I'd agree with Pete above.

Explain how this additive is going to "Reverse Wear".

Think about that statement, it doesn't slow wear down or stop it, it actually reverses it.

If you believe that then you're beyond help.

Before going off on one try the stuff or look into it a bit deeper, don't stand on your soap box and dismiss things you haven't tried

YES change your good quality oil at 5000 miles not disputing that one, but ZX1 stays in there for 25000 miles one addition for 25 000 miles and it reduces friction in the engine, so you have to turn your tick over down, protects cold engines until oil circulates once warm

but yeah pick up the symantics of "reverse"
Adding ZX1 is not going to reverse engineer your engine to factory condition but it certainly will run like it

I know, it claims that because its made of metal it will fill in any scratches in the cylinders and repair any bits that have been worn - sounds a bit terminator 2 technology to me.

But i am intrigued about this ZX1

I think it was best summed up by Slob at his best......

ah seen it but ah dint think ad bother commenting as am feed up getting told orf fer telling it like it is; so go ahead and buy some, stick it in and stand back and watch while it replaces all yer bearings, hones yer bores, renews all yer pistons and adjusts yer tappets and grinds yer crankshaft. and if yer buy 4 bottles it will even chuck in a free cambelt change or carb tune up. ave heard that if yer slip it a tenner it will nip round after wards and hover yer carpets arnorl

So you say I should spend a bit more on quality oil, funny how you know what I spend and what oil, but I do use fully synth Mobil oil, so what do you suggest is better and why.
Also I use unleaded petrol the stuff that every one else uses, but I still use a petrol additive so what's the harm and I do know I don't need to use it .

Millers Oils diesel Power increases power and mpg, reduces emissions and cleans injectors and piston crowns, giving easier starting, quieter and smoother running. Increases Cetane by up to 4 numbers. Each bottle treats 10 tanks of fuel and is suitable for all diesel engines, including those with particulate filters. 500ml.

We sell Wynns, Redex, Carlube & Forte. I've tried them all & the only one I think made any difference at all was the Forte Injector Cleaner.
I'm not a big fan of additives anyway, just service regularly using good quality oils & filters & sort any problems out sooner rather than later & you should be ok.

Just my opinion. :)

I think this has got out of propartion, it's not amazing to the extent when you start you car it's going to blow you off and clean the house, thats why we have wifes.

Sales people will tell you anything weather it's true or not. It may not be as good as the sale guy said but it is very good, i'd say well worth a try.

Honestly try adding it to your engine (with the engine running) you can noticably hear the differnece whilst you stand there, out of all the things you can add to oil, i'd say this was the best.

I wasn't talking exclusively to you mate. I was trying to say if you're gonna put additives in your car, don't bother and spend more on better oil and stick to the intervals etc.
If you want to put additives in you oil or petrol that's up to you, although if it's running so well why bother? You might use mobil, but not everyone does.

My TD5 had a small oil leak. My local independent Land Rover specialist said it was coming from a seal at the back of the engine. He said modern oils cause the seals to dry out and put some Wynns additive into the oil. It stopped the leak. The additive was included at the next service and 10,000 miles later still no oil leaks.....oh no that has tempted fate!!!
I took him at his word about using the additive but it seems to have done what was expected.

There are always going to be those for whom these things appear to work, but the laws of probability and the vagaries of Discovery ownership mean that you'll never get any scientific basis for the claims made by the sellers.

In nearly 50 years of motoring, I've seen these come and go, fuel pressure regulators, magnets on the fuel pipes, spark enhancers, all sorts of tins of stuff to add to your oil or your fuel and so on.

In 99% of cases, at best they are simple devices that do no harm, at worst they are snake oil and can safely be ignored.

It's your own money and your own vehicle, so buy what you will and let's hope that nothing untoward happens, but please don't expect me to believe the claims made by the sellers, and don't come back here complaining if you subsequently have problems.

I agree but would clarify this by adding, quality oil does not mean an expensive "big brand name" and if you currently use mineral oil try semi synthetic. I don't bother with fully synthetic, my vehicle is 20 years old.
As for fuel, I'm pretty sure not everone here is prepared to pay the prices for the premium grade fuel. How many of you fill up in supermarkets too?

I believe that fuel additives do work and I have used them in the past but I don't feel that the difference these day is worth the cost. (I used to use an additive on my MGB when the octane level was reduced on leaded petrol)

I can't personally comment on oil additives as I have not used any myself.
