Hi all i was driving my 300 tdi auto discovery and all of a suddun it stalled and would not start again turning over real fast like the cam belt had snapped. Any way i have stripped down the engine to do the cam belt and found nothing was broken. so i have taken out the starter motor to make sure none of the teeth were mising on the fly wheel and the starter all fine but then found i can turn the fly wheel round with 1 finger like it is spinning freely could this be the torque converter or something snapped in the flywheel ? Any advise would be much appreciated .

just doing one at the moment drive plate for torque convertor also has starter ring on it ,it will have broken on crank boss and so not connected to engine (just spinning)gear box needs to come off to replace, get used one £400 for new

was it the drive plate,? dont fotget to measure the depth of torque convertor in bell housing is 2mm greater than the amount drive plate sticks out from engine plate

Hello mate your advise was spot on ty. Sorry what do you mean measure the depth? Also i snapped the crankshaft sensor on the box will it run at all for a while if i unplug it as funds are getting real low.

i ve got a used one you can have, to know torque convertor is fitted into box correctly fbefore fitting its advisable to measure the depth t/c sits in bellhousing ,and how far drive plate pokes out from engine face (gearbox to engine face) soi that you know when gearbox on engine t/c needs pulling upto drive plate approx 2mm ,otherwise gearbox pump may be damaged
