Another question on Diff Lock Sorry

Hi all.
Probly sick of diff lock questions by now. But i have driven several derv manual disco 1's and other thatn one that needed a little help from some wd and a lever they have been fine. I recently brought a 1999 on T v8 disco auto on gas, thought that the problem with diff lock was the norm but removed center consol and it looks completely different and doesnt seem to have diff lock. Any ideas? i thought maybe as it was on the changeover from disco 1 and 2 could be y?

Cheers i was unsure as its a disco 1 right on the change over. is there much involed in fitting it and is it worth it?

Are you sure its a Discovery 1?? Cos even the very last of them had the difflock fitted.

The Discovery 2 had the gubbins in the box, they just didn't have the lever. Get what you need from a late series 1 Discovery and away you go.

Hi James, to establish DI or DII, does it have flap-style door handles or more of a proper handle that you pull, to open the door?

If it's a 7 seater, are the 6th and 7th seats side facing or front facing when in operation? If forward facing it's a DII.

yeah it has the flap style door handles side facing 6 n 7th seats and the indicators that have a slope on them. I have removed center consol n had a look and the lever definatly dosnt have anywere to slide. Hence my confusion.

its the linkage for a borgwarner transfer box from a rrc ,ive fitted a few to different vehicles as it doesnt need diff lock ,viscous coupling does it for you ,but viscous couplings can seize (they seemed to generally last a good ten years )you can check by jacking one front wheel up and trying to turn wheel with 2ft bar and socket should turn slowly and stiffly ,if its locked v/c needs replacing ,it located on front of transfer box and is in the housing front output flange comes out
 
cheers all thanks cleared my mind. if i lift one front wheel it wont turn but both front turn if both front are off the floor. i didnt try with a bar just by hand. yeah i remember loosing abit of skin freeing up my mates diff lock linkage.
 
you need to try with one wheel jacked up with a bar and socket ,both wheels jacked up will just result in the other wheel turning in opposite direction , if v/c is seized you will wear tyres and damage diffs etc
 
v/c is definatly tight i have to pretty much jump on the bar to get the wheel to move a few inches. If i knock the transfer box in neutral should it then spin even if the vc is seized?
