Treated my disco 1 300tdi to a new starter today as it has been playing up for years! Lol
And to my amazement after I fitted my new one.......same deal:boom:
The starter goes click
Sometimes it cranks fine and other times its like the solenoid is energizing but the motor won't spin. Grrrrrrrr:fighting:
Anyone had the same problem? I'm thinking relay? Wiring?
But mostly I'm thinking

Possibles are....bad earth from battery to engine or starter to engine. Damaged actuator wire from ignition to solenoid. Corrosion in main feed to starter from battery giving high resistance.

All these have at one time or another given me an intermitant starter problem. All can be checked by running extra temporary wire or jump lead

Bad earth is always a good bet

Have these got a starter relay Al?

Are you sure your battery isn't on it's way out ?????

i had the same problem with my transit and turned out the battery was knacked even it started every other time.

Yeah Sam. I replaced the relay and its still hit and miss.

I ran another earth wire to the starter mounting point straight to the battery. Still hit and miss.

If I power up the starter solenoid it starts so must be a wiring fault?
