Ammonia smelling coolant

Any of you guys have any idea why coolant should smell very strongly of ammonia?

Had a customer come in today and as soon as the cap came off, a very strong smell of ammonia - took ya breath away.

I have :search: and :googleit: without anything except a couple of non explanatary vids.

any ideas?

i'd bet they've used windscreen washer stuff instead of coolant

heat some windscreen splosh up and smell it

possible, i was lidl other day and they had big bottles of Anti-Freeze but on closer inspection and in very small lettering it said it was windscreen washer fluid.
