Hi there; just signed up thought I'd say a quick hello before I bombard you all with questions!
Running a disco 2 as my driver, got a 1990 90 300 tdi project ongoing! Rebuilt on a galv chassis with a disco r380 and a puma dash. Any ideas on the clocks would help a great deal the wiring is like spiderweb at the moment! Thinking of putting the 300 or td5 cluster into a custom housing. Any ideas be welcome! Or if anyone's done similar. Also looking for ideas on how to finish off around the gearbox/gaitors and tunnel. Was looking at using an old defender gaitor back to front but the bend isn't too great. Thanks for any help or annoyance in advance!

I like to think it's just got eclectic tastes
may have, but what the police will think if they get their hands on it would worry me. It sounds like you have nothing left of the vehicle but the number plate. Be careful. I saw an s2 tray back galv chassis coil sprung tdi etc laid up in the police contractors compound a couple of years back. He was getting free road tax mind you, but he didnt get it back
It's what

What because not same motor kinda thing? Alot of this is new to be fair. I've reg'd it on old chassis number

If you do a search , there are a couple of tutorials / wiring diagrams for putting a TD5 instrument panel into a 300tdi.
This is what I had from when I finished the wiring of mine in.

Cheers

What @cooltide is alluding to, is that the vehicle may fall foul of the points system .

If you do a search on here for points modified vehicle you may find the link to .gov website that stipulates the rules and what is allowable before you run the risk of requiring a Q plate. The biggest problem is as he has stated some people have modified a vehicles identity to use an older reg number and avoid road fund licence

Cheers

Mine shouldn't be changed on the points system as it's still running a 300 tdi from the same era? Or does that not matter

Like neilly said. + They would impound it for weeks and be checking everything's id to find if any parts can be proved stolen

They don't just do that randomly surely? I mean it doesn't need a vic inspection so there'd be no reason for anything go flag up?

It can be a bit of a grey area, as it depends on the way you read and interpret the guidance / rules from the .gov website.
Does the paperwork V5, reflect the change in the engine number? ( the 300tdi is not a 1990 engine) . The R380 gearbox would strictly speaking not have been fitted.....
There are a lot of them out there , it would take a very persistent cop to go over it and look for all the ID numbers and then correlate them back to the original Date that the vehicle was registered.

If you openly flout the rules, then a savvy cop may question the vehicle , if they find chassis numbers do not match / engine numbers are not correct, that the vehicle is on Coils and is registers as a Series 1, then you can expect a question or two and if you are found wanting then the vehicle may be impounded.

i doubt you'll have a problem unless for instance police have a marker on it already. I would be worried spending all your beer tokens on it is all. You might find it hard to sell too

Oh,

Had not noticed you be a newbie.....Welcome............Piccies , we like piccies.....

Have a read of this....

Oh, and just because I cannot resist, Make sure you have your EKA code for the D2.

May help if you keep an eye on the bay of flea, you will be amazed how many "series" Landies appear that have dubious heritage. Some even look like 90's .......
If you have a different engine / gearbox then make sure you keep the purchase info, just in case. But I have never been pulled and have never met anyone who has.

Cheers

Well as I've had to re register it as it was a cat C it was down as a petrol, I've tried to change this to a diesel when re registering.
So it wasn't a tax thing. Not sure if it affects a 1990 anyway tax wise but I have attempted to update it. And on the chassis front since its a direct unmodified replacement surely it shouldn't affect the points? There is a clause that says if it's a unmodified version then it still counts?
Thanks for info though good to know

Thanks haha. I brought it off a guy who had his own garage so it was receipted and he got from a cat c auction so the history matches to not stolen etc.
The conversion was a long time back I just think it was never updated.
My d2 surprisingly been pretty problem free. Small grind on box when cold but think maybe as could be running at rarther than mtf94
Struggling with some heater control cables as we speak!
