Disco3 shudder

Hi all,

I have been looking at the disco 3 shudder posts and mine is a bit different.
Over 2000 revs doesn't do it.
Not noticiable under load or acceleration
If you cruise any speed, 1500 revs to 2000, get this weird shudder/vibration and revs bounce by about 300.
Doesn't seem engine related more under the car? Any ideas?
Would a knackered shaft put load on the engine and cause the rev bounce at cruise?
All ideas greatly welcome....

common issue on auto D3 in that rev range is the torque converter failing, gives the symptoms your having

TC over a grand fitted.

Checked oil level?

Check all propshafts, U/Js and play at the pinions on both diffs before going to the expense of the TC, although I expect there is a way of taking a plate off or summat to check out the TC from below.
Dunno exactly as I only have D1 and D2.
But did have a case where vibration was caused by a pinion nut coming loose. took me ages to find it.

You could try some dr tranny shudder fix, if it improves you know you're in for a TC

Sorted my l322 out (same box for clarity) as did getting the wheels properly balanced as well but mine only juddered at 55+

Update.... major service including gearbox...added shudder fix.... seems better but not perfect....

Looks like a TC ... thank you to everyone who helped

Just had my mate who has Autel Diagnostic kit do some updates following new fuel filter change, still had low speed acceleration juddering, system shows that glow plug relays not working, discovery 3 has two 70 amp relays and if one fails it shuts the other zone down to protect system, one will still work for cold stating then shuts off, glow plugs also burn off excess fuel, so a simple check on those relays may solve a few problems, sounds daft but then logical if over fueling is the cause of juddering.

OK so feeling like I am too rich I gave my disco3 to the garage ... they put it on their brand new snap on diagnostic tool, both live for a drive and in the workshop, it's now done about 500 miles since its major service and shudder fix additive. If you don't look at the rev gauge it's not noticeable...but when cruising you can still see the rise and fall of the revs of about maybe 200 revs at most. Only happens if the revs are between 1500 and 2000. Professional opinion, could be a faulty rev needle as much as a faulty TC. So just going to use it...enjoy it and fix it when something actually breaks... won't be long.

Check the two 70 amp relays for the glow plugs, may sound silly but glow plugs also burn off excess fuel which can cause the juddering. If one relay is duff the ECM shuts the other one off for safety but still allows cold starting.
