Hi can some one tell me how to check the correct tension on a 1.8 freebe, aircon, alternator belt. I know how to fit it and to tighten it. But how do i get 10 kg of pressure on it and then measure the deflection of 9 to 10 mm? is there a special tool. Can i swap my manual tensioner of an automatic one?

As a rule of thumb the belt should twist 90 degrees when taut. Any less and its too tight, any more and its too slack.

Wouldnt bother with any of the gauges for measuring tension
