Freelander 1 Engine mounts (timing belt)

Hello,

I have started changing the timing belt on a FL1 1.8.

After struggling with the flywheel cover I now have the inner bolt for the engine mounting left. (One of the two close to the engine block)

The extension rod start to twist so I’m afraid I will break something. I’m away atm so can’t check so post in frustration. Would it be possible to loose the three bolts on the block or the two attached to the chassis and wiggle the engine so the belt can be fed through?

How much force can I use on the engine mounts, can I use heat?
I guess the previous owner was quite frequent at the gym.

Hi Chris,

I had this, what seems to happen is that the previous workman (or woman) used the bolts to pull up the weight of the engine rather than aligning and fitting bolt. This distresses the thread to the point where I had to replace the block mounting on mine as I think it is alloy and it stripped out bringing the thread of alloy with it.

Whip the whole mount off the engine and you may not need to replace it (just leave bolts in).

The torque values are they 85 nm for the M12 and 45 mm for the three in the block?

Just like to verify I’m looking at the right values in rave.

Seems I didn't read it through properly... so 30 nm plus 120 deg it is
I had to manufacture a plate to lock the flywheel and haven't had time until now to remove the bracket. Theres no room to use a torque wrench so I have to fine tune my wrist. Now I will assemble it all again.

Hmm, sorry for stupid question.
Isn’t this seal meant to slot in and then clamped by the bolt between lower and upper timing cover?
Its a tad oversized.

I know of no seals on the cover. Looks like the slot has broken a bit and the 'seal' is an attempt to stop the bolt head passing through!!
