My series 2 has suddenly developed a mind of its own. Midnight 2 nights ago the alarm went off for no reason. Try as I might, I couldn't turn it off - opening and shutting the doors, leaving it unlocked etc etc but it still was making a racket. I disconnected the battery and all was silent. In the morning I reconnected the battery and all was OK for about an hour then the same all over again. In despair (and making a real din whilst driving along the road) I made it to my friendly LR independent who daignosed the volumetric sensors and some surface corrosion. Problem sorted .... until 8am this morning when it all happens again. No worries, I'll disconnect the sensors. Gulp - alarm still triggers even when doors open. Strangely though, alarm sound seems to be comming from rear, not under bonnet and all this time no indicators have been flashing. Check out workshop manual and find a battery backed up sounder in the back. I've now got it out and sat here alongside me ... so, what now Jim ?

Sounds like someone in it's history has made some undocumented changes to the alarm system ...

Good idea and I thought of it early hours last night amid the blind panic. It was at the point it didn't work I was reaching for the 13mm spanner !!

BBU sounder has been disconnected all day and no false alarms. I need to run a test tomorrow to see if the front sounder is working. If it is I might just ditch the bl00dy thing. The internal battery is obviously not capable of holding charge anyway as the alarm went silent as I disconnected the car battery. Might just send it to the bin !!

u sure som1 isnt setting it off deliberatly in the hope you will disable the alarm leaving it unlocked making it easy to steal, has been heard of more common than u might think

had similar in cornwall last year whilst on holiday, the nice man from the AA spent some time under the bonnet before finally replacing the battery in my key fob ( as a last resort he told me) with a new one, he said the one in the fob still had a charge but once they get so old they need replacing with a good quality one, been fine ever since
