I think my climtate control unit is starting to fail!!!!! - Have noticed
that 'cold' setting has gradually grown less and less cold, indeed,
yesterday in the auto setting on full belt, there was no cold air only
boosted fresh air.
I am wondering if it requires 're-gassing' and just exactly what is this
procedure, will it have any knock on to the rest of the system? The 'Book'
icon is not displaying so hope blend motors are ok.

A google of the group will throw up loads of threads since June (when the
sun came out).

In a nut shell it sounds like you need a regas , costs around £50 on your
driveway, make sure you get a quote first. Should not affect the rest of the
system only takes around 30 minutes to do. It's like blowing up a tyre
except it's refrigerant being pumped in rather than air. Good installers
will vac the old stuff out, check it will hold a vaccume (no leaks), then
refill

Or do it yerself. Check under the bonnet on the plate that it's R134A
refrigerant then buy the kit from ebay. You need a tin of gas and a
connecting tube. Takes 10 mins.

And really good installers will replace the receiver dryer, add oil and
then re-gas it.

Suggest, particularly, you get it checked-out for leaks or you'll be having
an expensive refill without curing the problem. Just had mine done and
there was a leak in the system which had caused the symptoms you've
described (I'm told that it's rare for gas to "just leak out for no
reason"). The specialist found the leak by injecting a dye into the system
and then letting it run to see where the dye leaked out. Just to add to the
earlier excellent advice (above) - good installers will also check the
weight of refrigerant they are putting in, as all systems require different
amounts of gas and these are specified by the manufacturers

Beware of the cowboys who'll pump in a bit of gas in 5 mins, charge you £50
and then have you wondering why you're back to square one in a fortnight.

[As an aside, I've heard that there is now on the market a sealant (c.f.
radweld) which will cure small leaks in aircon systems but I've not found it
offered for sale anywhere.]
