Met Green, Cream leather interior
140K
FSH up to 97k

Full 12 months MOT, 5 months tax
Overfinch 7 seat conversion (matching leather) with seatbelts
Harman / Kardon sound system, with properly interfaced aftermarket Head Unit featuring MP3 / WMA CD, USB, direct iPod control interface and bluetooth.

Very reluctant sale - I've had her for 10 months now, and have spent many an hour (and pay packet!) fixing almost all of the things that commonly go wrong on P38s. I have to sell as I can only afford to keep 1 of my big motors, and it has to be the Disco for off-roading. The P38 has been my daily driver for the last 10 months and 11k miles. Her long term average mpg is 29.7 (on the dash).

Anyone who wants to know of her recent history can search for any of my threads in the Range Rover section detailing my trials and tribulations with her over the last 10 months!!

THE GOOD BITS:

Engine is in great condition, and has no starting issues, hot or cold.

I have done extensive work on her since I bought her:

New radius arm bushes (poly)
New front panhard rod bushes
New shocks x4 (OEM Boge)
New Steering Damper
New rear airbags (fronts are good and looked quite recent when I bought her)
New front propshaft rear UJ
New oil cooler and pipes
New glow plugs (delphi, not ebay rubbish)
New inlet manifold gaskets
New Alternator
New idler pulley
New drivebelt
New Alphaline 1000CCA battery
New engine bay fusebox & relays
New battery +ive lead & clamp
New ABS accumulator
Replacement ABS pressure switch
Replaced 1 HeVAC fan

Fitted with Datatek's ac fans mod (viscous fan removed, but still in working order - will include as a spare)

Fitted with Overfinch 7-seat conversion. Flip-up rear-facing bench seat in the boot in full matching leather and new lap belts. Useable by medium-to-large sized kids (or very small adults)

No EAS issues (I will also throw in Datatek's EASUnlock lead & software)

No starting issues - starts first touch of the key when cold, and after 1-2 secs of cranking when hot. ('hot start fix' NOT fitted!)

Exterior in great condition for year.

I also have a Witter HD towbar complete with electrics that I never got around to fitting... will throw into the deal free.

BAD BITS AND KNOWN ISSUES:

Interior - The leather is starting to show its age a little, although the only place it is actually damaged is a small piece of the piping on the outside edge of the driver's seat base. The rest of it is fine. The leather on parts of the steering wheel is quite worn and could do with a refurb. The headliner has started to sag at the rear and needs either re-glueing to it's backing or replacing.

The gearbox still 'flares' a little when changing between 3rd and 4th. It has had this fault since I bought her, and I have just lived with it for 11,000 miles. The gearbox is absolutely fine in all other respects - smooth, solid drive in all gears, and the fluid is nice and pink/red, and doesnt smell burnt at all. The more knowledgeable sorts here have suggested a valve may be sticky and that a couple of fluid changes or a flush may sort it - I simply havent got around to doing that yet!

The rear diff is quite noisy - it rumbles between 35-45 mph when under load, particularly when going round a corner. This is probably the worst fault the vehicle has and really the only one that will need some prompt-ish attention. On changing the diff oil a little while ago, I noticed it was black, very thin, and had some very fine metal swarf in it (also, there is evidence of oil leaking past the o/s/r half-shaft oil seal, which might explain why the diff has worn!). The diff looks like it needs a rebuild or replacing, although it will be ok to drive to its new home and prob ok for another couple of thousand miles. Emmotts can supply a 2nd hand diff for £75.

The HeVAC shows the book symbol... but not right away, it will appear after 20-30 secs or so and will disappear if the ignition is recycled. Mr Nanocom says 'Blend Motors', however, the HeVAC appears to be fully functional in almost all respects - you get full hot or cold air on either side independently, and all the vents work. The only 'bad' thing it sometimes does is the driver's side will sometimes stick on full hot (only if you select full hot - it doesnt do it spontaneously) - however, recycling the ignition will once again reset it to normal. My guess is that one of the blend flaps is a little sticky...

Heated seats don't work (surprise... which ones of this age ever do?)

There is a crack in the bottom right corner of the windscreen that was present when I bought her. It hasn't grown any in the whole 10 months I've owned her, and wasn't a failure at her MOT last week, as it lies outside the swept area of the screen.

The only warning on the dash is 'Low Brake Fluid' - this one has persisted for quite a while, despite the brake fluid level being perfectly normal. It appears the level sensor in the master cylinder reservoir is duff.

Ignore the 18" Hurricanes, as she's now wearing 16s - she seems to be much less skittish and rides alot better on 16s.

Also ignore the mud tyres and steel modulars shown in the distant pic above - they are for sale seperately if anyone is interested...

I can post up some more recent pics for anyone who's interested when I've had a chance to give her a proper clean...!!

Bearing in mind the amount of money I've spent on her, AND the faults I've listed above, I'm asking £2000 firm. I reckon she's worth about £2500, but needs about £200-300 and a little time spent on her.... so come grab a bargain!

I will also consider a swap / px (cash my way only) for an efficient Diesel car in good nick that averages at least 50 mpg - I'm thinking something well built and long-lasting - Golf, Passat, A4, Octavia, or similar...

Hi,
Is a 97 Audi A4 1.9tdi quattro sport avant any good to you ?
If so send me your email & I'll forward some pics & info on.
cheers.

Bump - I've now refurbed and re-covered the pillar trims...

I also have some leather dye in the post so I will be sorting out the scuffed steering wheel shortly... thias should really improve the look of the interior!

Any takers?

If not, I'll be replacing the dodgy diff and putting it in Autotrader...

...and asking for more money! Last chance to grab a bargain...

Bump... Still available and will have the rear diff sorted by next weekend if I still have it... After which the price will go back up to £2000...
