P38A 1997 DSE Manual 2.5 Litre Diesel

Much cherished and well cared for during my ownership - a good, honest and reliable example of a classic.

150500 miles
Taxed: MAY 2013 – Pre 2001 so cheaper to tax
Long MOT: NOV 2013

Owned for the last 2 years covering just less than 25,000 miles and used as a daily drive with next to no issues. No service history when I brought it but have kept a log of all the work I’ve done or had done including numerous fluid changes, service items and any repairs required. There is also a fuel log of every fill up showing RW-MPG. Send me a message for an electronic copy of the records to be sent to your email.

Engine – very good condition and not sure if it’s the original but looks new and clean. Serial number can be checked by the buyer. 2.5 BMW Straight Six engine – very smooth.
· Pre EGR model so no issues with performance.
· Looks very clean inside the oil filler cap with no carbon build up or black sludge.
· Head gasket fine
· Aluminium Intake
· Oil changed religiously every 6000 miles with correct and high spec synthetic 15w-40
· Ancillary drive belt changed
· Chain driven so no cambelt to change

Fuel System
· Redex treatment regularly used and this has helped with emissions and economy last MOT saw smoke reading of less than 0.02% - limit is 0.3% lowest the MOT tester has ever seen.
· Forte treated and tank flushed out for bio sludge
· Will reach 36MPG at a steady 65mph motorway
· Daily driving saw 27/28MPG during the summer and 25/26 in the winter on winter diesel
· Injectors all good including number 4
· Spill pipes all changed
· Fuel filter changed twice in my ownership
· PSI power box fitted – increased torque, BHP and economy. ‘Plug and play’ module and can be removed if desired as the extra torque can slip the clutch under heavy load.
· High pressure pump would benefit from a new upper seal which can be done by the home mechanic in a couple of hours – Parts £13 for a seal kit and I can advise how to – just never had the time during the winter. No detriment to fuel economy.
· In tank fuel pump fine
· No hot start fix – not needed as starts instantly hot or cold, with an uprated Yuasa battery with 1000cc and massive capacity.
· Uprated panel airfilter

Cooling and heating
· Radiator replaced when I brought it due to the top cover leaking
· Thermostat also replaced and top hose replaced
· Viscous fan works fine
· Water pump working
· No coolant loss – filled with red 5 year antifreeze at a perfect 50/50 mix suitable for the aluminium block
· Heater matrix O-rings fine with no damp in the drivers foot well
· Temp gauge stays in the middle
· Cabin warms up as soon as the needle lifts off the blue
· Intercooler flushed.

Interior – clean and tidy although previous owner (farmer) used it as a working vehicle so some embedded dirt that a bit of elbow grease might get out.

· Cream leather with no rips or tears – back seats are hardly used
· Genuine RR rubber mats all round
· Top lining could benefit from refitting/fixing – again I can give you the procedure if you want to take this on yourself
· Genuine LR twin cup holders
· Heating system (blend motor/distribution and Fans) work as they should – no book symbol.
· Only message on the display is ‘LOW SCREEN WASH’ which requires the sensor replacing on the bottle - Never bothered me.

Entertainment
· Alpine Head unit coupled to the factory Harmon Kardon 8 speaker system with no distortion and quality sound.
· Ipod connection and Bluetooth ready Alpine part number – KBT300i
· Radio and pre outs for amp and subwoofer – The current fitted sub is a 1200w 2x 12” Fusion with 900w amp and remote control. It’s professionally fitted at the moment and I can leave it in for an extra £80 extra on the advertised price. Otherwise it will be removed when the vehicle is sold.
· Microphone installed but not compatible with the head unit as it is.

Exterior
· Paintwork T-cut, polished, glossed and then sealed with aircraft wax. Showroom finish on a 15 year old vehicle
· Some light corrosion on the lower door panel – barely noticeable but easily repaired
· All lettering finished in Gold enamel which offsets the Epsom Green nicely
· Road legal privacy glass all round fitted by LR – great for security and keeping heat out
· Much desired roof bars fitted – can be supplied with square Thule Roof bars to complete the setup for an extra £60
· Original LR side steps
· NOTE: Vehicle is fitted with 18” L322 alloys and correct spigot rings that are finished in RR Piano Gloss Black giving the vehicle a bespoke look. The 4 silver alloys will pictured (which are the same style as the fitted black ones) will be included in the sale and subsequently the price. Ideal for fitting winter tyres or as an extra off-roading set.
· 4x Matching Bridgestone 265/60/R18 Dueler tyres all round with good tread – about half worn. Included with the vehicle is another unfitted matching tyre.
· Full size spare on matching Bridgestone tyre and one of the silver alloys. This will avoid fitting the smaller diameter tyre in the event of a puncture damaging the viscous coupling. The original – smaller spare (unused) is also included.
· Bottle jack included with tools
· Rare front A-bar fitted for extra protection with fully working driving lights – brilliant down dark lanes
· All round light guards and upgraded clear indicator lenses front and rear
· Front grill sprayed in black
· Vented rear brakes – EBC Heavy duty pads – all good
· Solid Brembo front brakes with EBC HD pads that will require replacing. Brembo Discs are c£80 and pads c£20. Half an hour job aside to replace and I can advise on procedure for this if required.
· Tow bar fitted with electrical socket
· Powerflow straight through stainless steel exhaust that should never need replacing with twin outlet and tailpipes.

Air suspension
· Works as it should – I’ve had no problems since owning the vehicle
· Air bags all look good and are regularly cycled through the height settings to avoid sticking and perishing.
· Front dampers recently replaced with Terrafirma shocks and bushes


I am really hoping this will go to a good home and be cared for as much as I have. I will be sorry to see it go. Such a fantastic vehicle and very capable in the snow and on flooded roads being a diesel and with the extended air suspension. Comfortable and practical - I’ve never taken it off road, but used it for carrying large loads and as the daily commuter.

Test drives are welcome by appointment only – however only serious buyers please not those wanting to test the RR water. There should be no surprises as I’ve listed everything as honestly as I can. No more than two people per appointment. Where I can I will ensure the engine is cold for you to start however this cannot be guaranteed.

Vehicle is located easily from J9,10,11,12,13 of the M1.

Payment will be cash on collection to drive away. Electronic transfer accepted however vehicle will not be released until funds have fully cleared.

I reserve the right to remove the vehicle from sale at any point as it is advertised elsewhere.

Final price is £3000 – OVNO – silly offers will politely not be accepted.

NO guarantees or warranties are sold with the vehicle and is sold as seen. No refunds once the transaction is completed and the V5 document signed. The onus is fully on the buyer to test drive first before committing to the sale.

Private plate on the vehicle is being removed at this time and ONLY once the registration documents are back from the DVLA will the vehicle be released.
