Hello Range Rover fans. I have just bought a 2000 2.5 DHSE. It has a few niggly faults but runs very well indeed. The Oil cooler pipes are seeping, I can fix those OK, the engine needs some new glow plugs, I can do that OK & the thermostat is stuck open/missing, I can do that OK.

The guy that sold it to me said that this SRS fault light comes on occasionally and it is fixed by a wiggle of a poor connection under the passengers seat. Well it came on yesterday, but is intermittant and only when there is a front seat passenger aboard. I can't ring the guy as I haven't got his pnone no. any more.

I was a mechanic many centuries ago when I was young (a Hillman Imp was hi-tech then!) so I have knowledge of cars without the computerised gubbins in all modern cars, let alone those of a Range Rover!!

Frankly Air Bags terrify me, although I know they can be disarmed by undoing the battery and leaving them overnight. I want to "wiggle the poor connection" but I don't want to set off the SRS system!

My question is, what is under the passenger seat & how do I get at it. Will I be likely to set of the airbags whilst "waggling"? Also if I disconnect the battery to play safe, will I lose all the codes in the door locking/alarm system.

I know there are other queries in a similar vein, but I did try a search and couldn't find this specific problem.

Finally, what is the definitive reprogram method for the key? I've got both keys one marked Key 1. The battery was flat and replacing them and the button cover has made the red lights work. The key works the locks and ignition allowing the engine to start. The working key (marked Key 2) works the locks and seat settings remotely but Key 1 resolutely refuses to operate anything remotely. I've tried the handbook method, put it in the drivers door lock and twiddle it left/right button in/out method. Everything except The Hokey Cokey really. Is there one correct failsafe method? I don't want to end up corrupting the BeCM so that Key 2 stops working. Help

Wiggling won't set it off, I had to do it last week, you will need to restart after wiggling so the ECU can send it's test signal around to check all is well in the circuit.
Check on the forum, but i think you key should re-sync by putting it into the ignition to start as usual, worked with my 2001 DHSE.

Look under the seat for a yellow 2 pin plug, with the ignition turned off unplug and reconnect it half a dozen times. This action scratches the surface of the connectors making a better contact.
Next time you key on the SRS should self test and the lamp "should" stay off...
Well in 99% of cases it does, the fault will still be logged in the SRS DCU,but as long as the lamp goes off it is happy.
The connector is for the side bags in the front seats.

contact cleaner?

Well the wire waggling worked, I can't see what was wrong with the plug though. It's not corroded and seems quite stiff to slide in and out of the other end. Still it works fine, maybe a dry joint on the wire crimping?

As far as the key is concerned I tried putting it in the ignition but no luck. Trawling forums and the web have come up with several methods, key in the doorlock turn left with the lock button down, key to the left and right button down, key to the right button down. None of these work but the one to the left set off the alarm ang showed ignition tamper on the message centre.

So should I leave well enough alone, take it to a local independant Land Rover garage and see if their computer can synchronise it or risk fiddling with it myself in fear that I corrupt the BeCM?

I'm starting to wonder if the fob is faulty although the red light flashes and the key operates the doorlock and ignition. Surely the ignition lock must sense the key as on lesser vehicles?

Ok, thanks for all the help but it seems that the keyfob is broken. Tried all the methods of re-synching but it won't work. If I want a 2nd key I'll have to bite the bulet and go to the local dealer.

Buzz MOZZ a PM and he might be able to help over the phone

Thanks for the points on how to sort airbag faults, mine started today with an MOT tomorrow ARRRGGGGHHHHH, but yet again the threads on here saved the day!!

I have the same fault with the airbag fault showing on the dash, it started as an intermittent fault that only appeared when someone sat in the front passenger seat. It is now showing perminantly on the dash. I take it the same proceedure unplugging and reconnecting might help.

Yep, yellow connector under the seat.:)

worked for me, I removed the securing strap from the underside of the seat as seems to happen when my OH drives and moves the seat closer. Since removing I can move the seat back and forth and no issues - YAY for once a cheap fix!

How do you fix your seeping oil cooler pipes ? Mine do also and I have new ones handy but don't want to risk the joint at the coller. The seep isn't too bad. Is there an idiot proof fix of the seep ?
