Hello there just popped out to my resently purchased discovery 2 and noticed the drivers side rear has dropped (First time this has happened)

I know... its going to need new air bags...

But the once its raised itself the air compressor wont turn off.. making a horible whining noise.. is this stating the obvious and air bag is split so it wont pump fully up hence the whining????

Thanks for any advise you can give me am, new to discoverys.

yes bag or pipe to it pipe is push fit ,you push connector in then pull pipe out ,you can get coil spring kit for about £100 or less funnily enough britpart one is best ,gives better ride easy to fit ,need someone with hawkeye to switch car to coil instead of air to keep lights off after, bags have 2 x clip on top normally need new ones bottom twist round 90 degrees and lifts out, bags normally wear at bottom where they roll over themselves

Thanks james might change the bags i like the smooth ride it gives...

Just took it a spin and it sounds like ive got 2 diff problems the whining noise stopped when i put some fuel in. The fuel light was on...

Does this sound like a fuel pump problem? were is the fuel pump on disco's cos the noise is def coming from the rear...

Just in case i was parked on a steep hill front facing down if that makes any difference..

Yeah prob right with pump... least it looks a nice easyish job to change the bags...
Blood discoverys you dont get these problems with Defenders... :)

I changed the in tank fuel pump in my 2001 Td5 last year .
Ever since the pump whines if the fuel level drops much under a quarter tank ; has been running fine though .

first air suspension unit I changed took 35 mins start to finish, and cheap. wouldn't even think of changing to coils.

IF the air bag is split and the air pump is running continuously to keep it inflated, you need to fix it ASAP as the pump isnt rated for continuous running and you will wreck it. Replacing the air pump is much more expensive.

Fuel pump will whine with air, ie after changing filter or if fuel level is very low. this is at the back of the vehicle. Air compressor is in middles of car on passenger side chassis rail, so its easy to tell which one is the source of the whine

Its def the fuel pump then its was coming from the rear and what you said makes sence as the fuel filter has just been changed as well.
Going to order the bags today from paddocks (the car was still up this morning) strange but best get them changed just in case.

Its there a way of purging the air out of the fuel filter, i used to do this on my defender by pressing the throttle 5 times with the ignition on..

it works for D2 too(u have to see the MIL blinking)... or just put the ignition on pos.II and leave it so for 3 minutes

Turn the ignition to position II and leave for 3 mins; then start the engine and go for a short drive.
