Hi All,

Google this fault on here and came across all the problems/issues that everyone has had with their own air suspension. I've seen V8 Saint's posting which in parts relates to my issue, so here goes my problem.

2003 TD6, normal ride height and hold lights both on, I understand this indicates a "soft" fault. Next bit is the rear is at normal ride height and the front is nose down on the stops.

I am going to disconnect the battery tomorrow (neg) and then reconnect, start the engine and take the steering through the lock to lock routine to see if that cures the problem.

If not I can only think it could be either a valve or front crossover issue. But I await your words of wisdom. If I need my system plugged in does anyone have a faultmate and live close to Grays Essex.

Alan

Thanks for the replies both, I'm going to try the battery disconnection first.

Data, not sure about the air bag, couldn't hear any air escaping, but I won't rule it out.

Hippo, I may take you up on your offer if all else fails.

Thanks both.

Alan

If the fronts on the floor, consider a split front air bag...

A soft fault occurs when the vehicle can determine the vehicle height, but either can't manage to acheive a set height or some other fault that although it can determine height, it feels it needs to fault incase it deteriorates into something worse!

It could be a dicky crosslink valve on the front, but they aren't usually a common fail item....should be located behind the drivers side wheelarch liner against the bulkhead!

get lead and eas software
£22 flee bay
depressure tank
6mm push in tube on to of suspension
make new 6mm tube
with air valve push in
and blow up with tyre compresser

Hi Saint V8

Thanks for your reply

I'm going to sound a bit thick here, when you say it registers a soft fault, does this mean a compressor pump etc. But I will do the disconnect battery this afternoon first and have a look at both front air bags even though I couldn't hear an air leak on Monday when it went wrong.

It was when I got home yesterday that I noticed the cars posture.

Thanks

Alan

If the air bag has split, you won't probably even hear the air escaping from the leak !

Also check the condition of the ride height sensors ... Mine did the same as yours when one of th front sensors snapped off !

A weak compressor will register either a soft fault or a hard fault, at first if the pressure rise during the pump running is slow or no change, it will soft fault and try and level the car as best as possible using the air in the tank, untill such time that it can no longer maintain a decent set height and then it will hard fault.

Hate to be a doom monger, but if it has soft faulted (Lights on the hold switch and standard height plus Air Susp. Inactive message) a battery reset is unlikely to do anything but worth a go, stranger things have happened at sea!

Best to take Hippo up on his offer of plugging it in and reading the fault codes....it may just be a case of an electrical hiccup that needs to be reset....

But if the front is low and rears at normal height....I am inclined to think Air Strut issues or as Hippo says a height sensor....as the vehicle should try and relevel itself even in a Soft Fault situation, and if it is struggling to raise the front due to a leak or if the height sensor is giving duff information it will never acheive such and clearly there is an issue that a battery reset may not cure!

Hi Saint.V8

Just tried the battery disconnection, no good, except I now have the message centre alternating between "air susp inactive" and "HDC inactive"

Checked both ride height sensors nothing untoward there, just about to remove the wing shields but rain has stopped play.

Hippo, thanks for your offer to plug the car in, I have sent you a pm.

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Turn the Steering full lock and hold for a couple of seconds, then all the way to full lock the other side and hold for a couple of seconds then back to centre...that will reset the Steering Angle Sensor and cancel the HDC message!

As for the EAS problems...Hippo can plug you in!

Hi All

Hippo came out to me this morning and hooked up the Rangie. Bad news compressor pump is tied and front air bags are passing their sell by date.

Just been pricing up the parts, Island 4x4 are doing the struts as an on line offer, they are Dunlop at £183 ex vat, that works out at £219.99 a side. Ebay has pumps from Auto post for £235. So that looks like the way for me to go.

Many thanks Hippo for your time and knowledge this morning.

Chuffing hell that's a good price for the struts! I might stock up lol.
My drivers strut poped the other day. Easy change, took about an hour but then again I was taking my time. Just make sure you have an adequate torque bar

Think I paid £280 inc vat and delivery from Duckworth parts.
But land rover quoted me £647.36 + vat for exactly the same oem strut!
