aimed at shifty ! any ways that i can make my td5 disco change gear at lower revs ?

hi guys iv just bought a td5 auto, and I ignored all the rumours about them being crap, and they are ! I can imagine towing they are awesome but otherwise just reving the balls of td5 even when cold, so my question is, without giving Ashcroft £300 is there anyway I can get it to change at lower revs ? its 3rd gear that's changing at 3k revs !, would an oil and filter change help ?

Nope....nowt u can do....except sell and buy a manual!
3000 does seem a little high though, it will revv higher when the box is cold (they do)
Prehaps you have an issue with the box. An oil/filter change certainly wouldn't hurt IMO.

so has anyone got the Ashcroft torque converter ? I think im keepin it till winter 2015 so I think I should buy one, just the gear box oil cooler pipes and the low down level of the car scares me from sldiing box back
 
I've got an Auto V8, and it doesn't hold on to the revs unless I am flooring it. If I treat the throttle gently, it shifts at around 2500. Have you tried altering your driving style?

The.v8 esentially has the ashcroft HD torque converter. The v8 changes at different speeds too IIRC
 
At gentle acceleration, mine changes at certain speeds - 1st to 2nd 15mph, 2nd to 3rd about 27, 3rd to 4th about 35. Torque converter lockup happens at 53 in top.

I have seen threads on here where if the engine is not producing enough power, the box delays the changes and give the symptoms you mention. Wastegate actuator being stuck was the problem I saw in one thread.

To be fair it does seem as though he has an issue that makes it a bit crap. Are they all like that? Is there an underlying problem? Is there a solution?

gear change is slower until its warmed up ,it saves excess pressure been put on box, diesels have harsher torque ,and even so they arent crap there just like most autos of their age ,autos have some draw backs but but overall i prefer them ,if you want them to behave like a manual it wont last as long
 
worth a try with a V8 transmission ECU... as i dont have an auto i can't make tests on mine but it worked well for others... now what i dont know is which V8 ECU works better on Td5, the low compression or the high compression one...based on pure logic to achieve earlyer gearchanges you should use a low compression one

also you can work on the addaptive settings with dedicated tester
