As you might've heard I had a CV joint malfunction (completely collapsed and wedged the steering) while away a couple of weeks ago.

I got it put back together at no small expense - but that got me home and back to work.

I don't think it's been done as well as I want it, second hand CV joint, bearings, etc. And it's now started 'clanking' so needs some adjustment.

I now want to do it proper. New bearings, CV joints on both front corners.

Also, the OS caliper is fubarred, disc warped and the NS in't much better. So while I'm at it...

So, questions....

Any recommendations for who to get the bits off-of and what brands to go for? I'm not looking for super-dooper EBC performance, just hard wearing and reliable. I've used 4x4 mailorder for bits before and they were good, reasonably priced and got bits to me nice and quick - which is important because I want to do the work this weekend. But are there any particular brands to look for wiv regard to CVs, bearings, calipers and discs (I got some pads when I was in Brighton but didn't have them fitted 'cos of the wedgied caliper).

Second, anyone in Dorset fancy coming to give me a hand in exchange for beer, cider, home cooked venison, biscuits, cakes and cheese sandwiches? And copious amounts of tea..?

Here's hoping..!

second hand cv could be perfectly fine as long as not worn, just check it (rotational play in joint)new bearings timken rtc3429g, any disc should do ,ive fitted most and britpart have been perfectly fine ,lockheed pads ,calipers are best renewed in pairs ,unless your using similar second hand one,ive used a lot of cheap calipers and theyve been fine apart from one were i changed seal for genuine seals but no great problem to do. most use the same 3 wholesalers ,try famous four they tend to sell genuine when necessary and pattern when okay, whereas a big company with just phone sales people will sell the cheapest parts without knowledge

I've decided to leave the CV joint then, but seeing as I've got to get in there to get it aligned properly I'll be renewing the bearings.

I've ordered the bits from Land Rover Mail Order 4x4 again, they were pretty reasonably priced when I used 'em before and the chap on the phone seemed to know what he was talking about.

So I've gone for Timken Bearings for both sides, Bearmach discs and calipers. They're ordered and should be with me tomorrow.

Still asking, any Dorset folk up for a bit of spanner fun this weekend..? (Waiting for the 'edited for...' fun)

sounds fine still check cv ,i just meant theres nothing wrong with fitting good used cv

When I was on the phone to them at Mailorder4x4 they asked how many splines the CV joints have and I couldn't remember (10) so decided to take 'em apart and see if they're fixable. If they're fubared I'll leave 'em until next week, if they're okay I'll get it all back together.

So is no-one up for giving my a hand wiv the spannering? Tea, cake, cider, venison, etc, etc. And I've just checked and the tides are looking good for fishing Studland beach on Sunday evening..! I can provide the rods, lines, bait and beer!

I'd be more than happy to help.... If I were a tad closer to you :D none of it is hard its just getting the cup things the bearings sit in out that's a bugger.

Oh, I don't fink it's beyond my abilities it's just a bit to try and get done and many hands make light work of cake! :D

I'm glad that I got no offers, I seem to have inflicted a quite spectacliar hangover on myslef. Spanners at the ready now though... Or shall I go fishing instead? It is a nice day after-all...

Well, I done it myself. Here's Scratchy's nice new shiny bits..!
