That was the line I came out with when trying to explain to a group of Landzoners that they shouldn't worry about me, when I met up with them to tackle Salisbury Plain on Sunday. Everyone nodded, but in a 'yeah right whatever' kind of way.

I drive a standard Jimny, in gay blue. The only mods I've done are *slightly* bigger AT tyres, and recovery points front and rear.

I bought it after considering all the options and turned down anything from Solihull on the basis of reliabilty, fuel consumption, price and ability to park it in work's tiny spaces. That isn't to say I don't like landies. I think series 3 110 station wagons look fantastic, my uncle still owns the series 1 that my parents used as a wedding car in 1970, and I was born and bred in Solihull.

So, does anyone want to fight the corner for defenders? I'll start by pointing out that;
Jimny's have over 40 years of heritage, from the LJ (light jeep) through the SJ. The differences between them and an SJ are coil springs, fuel injected engine, switchable 4x4 at up to 60mph, and of course the body.
They're lighter and smaller which means they sink less in mud, and can get through narrow lanes with less difficulty. They also have shorter overhangs, and wheelbase giving better approach/departure and breakover angles. They even have a greater wading depth (650mm vs 500mm).

On the downside, their carrying ability is shocking, and you have to be confident of your sexuality to drive one.

But I stand by my point - an unmodified Jimny is better off road than an unmodified '90.

Are you for real? You put a post like that on a land rover forum and ask if anyone wants to fight the defenders corner? funniest one yet... im sure they'll be plenty of takers. I'll be watching this one. Its gorra be a wind up

On the downside, their carrying ability is shocking.

surely then this negates their value as a vehicle down to simply a toy, or at the very least a vehicle that is very occasionally of use (such as this weather)

what's the point of a 4x4 that's just big enough for a handbag, hair straightener and makeup bag ?

think carefully before such comments-Stuck comes to mind.
Also when you break it it will cost **** loads.

Ahh, landrover owners, always assuming things will break :)

And what about getting stuck? Less likely than in a defender, and easier to unstick when it does happen...

and a quad bike is lighter than a 90 also with less space than a Jimny, does that the quad its better than than both ......FECK ORF!!

jimny is good, but, as already stated its load capacity is usless, good to get yourself and a mate up into the hills with yer butty box, but no good for serious work ( by that I mean doing a job- lugging bales, kit, boats and so on).
I used to slag em off to but mate has one and it'll go places my disco cant ( to big) but it cant do a lot when it gets there :)

heres my take on the jimmy jim jim jim , most woman don`t like quad bikes as they have no cab or heater and no where really to keep shopping make up hand bags and you can`t take the girlies shopping on a quad bike, so thats why the jimmy jim jim jim was invented its just a big fancy quad for a woman , so to answer your question is a jimmy jim jim jim better off road than a defender yes it is because its a big quad , i have a man quad bike myself and yes it too will go places the defender won't, will a jimmy jim jim jim tow 3500kg ?? i don't think so , would you feel safe wading through a deep moving river in a jimmy jim jim jim i don't think so , i use my defender for Farming witch means i tow loads close to 3t,Deer stalking,Fishing,Towing horses, and off roading/playing,

if i had a jimmy jim jim jim i could maybe go fishing in it and play a bit off road but thats it

A Defender is a real mans jeep
A jimmy jim jim jim is just for little boys but really for girls

well theres no such thing as a series 3 110,
there slitty made,
they fall over,
hand bag and hair straighteners fill the thing up
you cant use it for anything useful
as a toy, why not buy a decent toy, just because its small doesnt mean its best, when you get stuck in ruts, and u look like a gay getting behind the wheel and get laughed at at traffic lights

Right. I'm declaring myself the victor. Jimnies are gay, can't carry ****, but apart from that are the superior off road machine.

Winnah.

See you all at the next salisbury event :)

Land rovers have been around for ages... a 20year old Land rover will still go offroad and perform well..
will your Jimny be around in 20 years time?

One of my mates has a Jimny, off road tyres, etc, etc...
He has been stuck in places where I dont even use low range or diff lock..

here's a pic of my mate Jimny..
