Hey Guys :)

We've got a 1995 p38 range - list of problems if you guys can give any advice would be greatfully appreciated.:p

1) My key fob remote (key 2) won't open or unlock the car we have replaced the batteries and the red light lights when you press either, tried to set it to car with nothing, we have key 1 and replaced the batteries in that but still doesn't work at all no lights flashing or anything

2) Used the car one day didn't use it the next then went to use it the day after and the battery was dead, checked nothing was left on put it on trickle charge for the rest of the day and it started later, if i use/start it everyday the battery doens't go flat but if we leave it a day or more its flat.

3) Went to open the car yesterday by the key and it only opened the drivers door and set the alarm off came up engine immobile and a message about the key code, so i entered the key code and still wouldn't work so left it a couple of hrs tried again and it unlocked all the doors with the key, my husbands gone to it today and it came up engine immobile.

Any ideas whats up with this thorn in my side or do i just burn it now and save myself the hassle of trying to figure out the old beast? :D

Sounds like a classic case of RF Reciever, draining the battery overnight....

This little device is what picks up the remote fob, it is dtoo sensitive to outside interference, so when you look the car, the BeCM goes to sleep, if the RF recieiver picks up a signal it wakes the BeCM up to check if it is the right code, after 3 minutes the BeCM sleeps again....only to be woken up again while the RF Rec. picks up another signal.....

The solution is to replace the Reciver with the latest version (there were 3)....

Do a search on here on how to resync the remote fobs, and how to check your RF reciver....

I agree with Saint, the RF receiver is probably draining the battery, but it may also be the reason that your FOB's don't work. Replace it before it burns the door lock motors:eek:

I'd disconnect the bloody thing, mine was picking up my wife's MG remote and amusing the neighbours, til the Rangy alarm started going off during the night. Lizzie, you may think about a new battery, Rangy's don't like the battery going flat.
