Not really but if you dont stand for something, you`ll fall for anything

I've already said that I support the protests and I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest it may be wise to be caucious about anything that can be directly related to them.

Certainly better than slagging off those that support them for not being there.

I may be playing devils advocate to a degree but a 'fook 'em' attitude will only help those that want us banned.

I don't believe all ramblers/horse riders etc are against us but the deeper we draw the divide the more difficult it will be for them to voice dissent.

Trouble is, BB, so many of the walkers and horse riding fraternity DO see us as a major threat to 'their' tracks .. My sister included, who has a 4x4 to drag horsey stuff about. She really enjoyed herself when i took her (easy lanes) green-laning, thought it was thrilling, but then said "Of course, you're wrecking the lanes for us" ... meaning horse riders!

it doesn't matter how good we are, whether we abide by rules, 'play the game' or are utter ####wits, we're still 'damaging lanes' .. so I now say sod 'em ..

I will drive a lane where, when and how I like. I'll do it in the knowledge that I am fully within the law and will still do it in as 'treadlightly a fashion as is reasonable and suitable .. but if I get stuck I will post pics or videos and won't worry that 'they' will use them or not. They'll only find pics of winch challenge events, say, and use them anyway .. Truth isn't a necessity to get a point across!

I agree that in the past I would have preferred that some lanes weren't driven, that some pictures weren't shown, but where has 'being decent' got us? How many times do we have to turn away at a TRO sign before we say 'enough' ?

Stuff 'em, drive the lanes, show the pics and #### 'em .. time we fought fire with fire ..

That is exactly the the same attitude the ramblers took in 1932 with there mass trespass to regain rights to ancient paths Kinder Trespass - Home ::     They had little regard for landowners or the countryside there only goal was for themselves and still is, so im with you on this one Paul, where once i would have turned arround if the terrain was in a poor state, now i wont, why should I? the only people who give a #### about green laning is green laners, can you imagine the uproar if we petioned to get people away from walking on our unsurfaced roads and stick to pedestrian walkways? so #### em. for years we have tried to be pleasent and keep groups down only to avoid upsetting other users, why should we when all they want is us banished forever. Id like to see the state of some of the lanes they enjoy walking in 5 years time after no vehicle usage, they will be overgrown and un passable even on foot. Sorry i know this may sound very against tread lightly`s campaign but all it has managed to acheive so far is showing other user groups that not only can they have our pants down, they can shaft us from behind, sorry not in my trousers, so #### em, ive spent years of doing as im told and staying away from lanes at certain times of the year or when they are unsuitable, not any more, if it doesnt have a tro on it then ill be on it.

When you eventually get you 90 on the road tim lol
its nearly ready although now i think im going to swap the tyres for some 44 inch boggers. ive been trying to thimk of a theme for the stickering of it, i may go with a full on anti rambler campaign, i wonder how many of the tnuc` s will turn there noses up and look in the oposite direction when a jacked up 90 with 44`s on it all stickered up saying #### off you rambling ****s on it. lol cant wait for wales, although to be fair the few we see over there are usually quite pleasent

More insults....well done!

I never said you were idiots.

Paul....My thinking is the dynamics have changed with the protest and it seems so far to be very positive but that could easily change and work against us if we come across with a fook'em attitude.

IMO this is the time to show strength of feeling in numbers but we have to remain respectful else nobody will want to share the lanes with us.....and we risk losing them all.

We have to be careful not to turn into the stereotype they portray us as.

I cant see how a few pics matter.

Being associated with the idiots with off road bikes will do far more harm :rolleyes:

Fair comment .. but I would never be disrespectful in reality .. and I'd never screw up a lane intentionally or otherwise, if they're undriveable they're undriveable .. though I'd winch or bridge over an obstacle, same as abating one really .. ;) Lets face it, if we're meeting walkers (any other users really) on a lane, we just about have the power of life and death over them (or at least severe injury) so I'd always give way to them, always have, always will, but that's mostly 'cos I'm generally a polite person.

What I'm fed up of is the attitude of they're right and I'm wrong and we always back down to them and defer .. we go downhill only on Stanage, and Roych, we stay away when asked to on Chapel Gate, we don't drive Mastiles any more, and queue up for licences to drive Gatesgarth .. these are all ancient roads FFS, NOT feckin' footpaths and were MADE for vehicular traffic! OK, maybe not made for todays vehicles but so what? That's what we have and i intend to use mine.

Writing this and thinking/reading it through it also occurs to me that I've made a big shift in my approach. I used to think "Walkers coming, I'll move over, wave and smile and say hello 'cos I want them to think I'm a nice polite 4x4 driver" .. Now I think I'll still move over but only because I actually am a nice polite 4x4 driver, not 'cos I want them to think I am! Subtle but powerful shift in thinking I think .. irrelevant to the walkers who'll still see me move or wait for them .. but I'll know.

Your last point, they don't want to share the lanes with us anyway .. but we only have a few of them whereas they have many, many more footpaths and bridleways to use so I say feck 'em, let 'em stick to 'their' designtaed routes .. I don't want them on the lanes with us, but I ain't forcing them to do anything, won't stop them from doing it, but similarly don't want them to have the ability to force us to do anything either!

When I go walking I don't want to walk roads (green lanes), I want to walk footpaths or open access land, I don't want to share with vehicles either! So I can understand their attitude somewhat, but don't understand why they want us off the roads .. they have so many other places they can use to get to the same goals that are so much more pedestrian friendly!

i totally agree with you paul. we all need to stick together on this and work together becuse all said and done we all want to keep these lanes open
