Just bought my 1st Disco, its a 'L' reg 200tdi manual but there are a few issues i need help on.
1- the heaters dont work - no fan on any position of the switch
2- Rev counter intermittant
3- steering excess play - can you adjust steering box?
4- radiator needs replacing - wheres the best place to get 1?
5- the gearlever springs back to between 1st & 2nd gears not 3rd & 4th as most cars do, can this be adjusted?

There will be more questions but i only picked it up tonight and these were just a few quirks i've noticed

1- check fuses, if its not that then the fan its self is probably dead or bad connection

2- dunno 100% but if its the same as a 300tdi then its worth checking the connections on the back of your alternator, they could be loose/broken etc

3- get under your disco and watch all the bush joints round the front axles and steering ball joints while you get an assistant to move the steering wheel left and right etc. it might just be that the box needs tightening but in my experience its just as likely to be worn bushes, specifically radius arms or panhard rod. if the box does need tightening its an easy job

4- standard OEM would be my recommendation, should be around the £100 mark maybe a bit cheaper

5- dunno sorry mate, not too hot on gear boxes

cheers

1, 2, 3 & 4 as above ...

4. It'll be either the bias plate has looosened or a bias plate spring broken. Fixing needs the centre console removing, the cover plate (about 12 rivets) removing and the membrane, then at the top of the gearbox there's a small squarish plate that holds two springs, the problem is likely to be there. Search the forum for 'bias plate', it's been explained better a few times. ;)

I'm not sure you meant that did you, my Discovery usually stays at sea level :D:D

The problem with the rev counter is, as you suggest caused by the little single wire becoming detached from the alternator.

New rads available from paddockspares.com about £100.

The gear lever issue is caused by a broken bias plate, new one from LR costs only £5 plus about 1 hour of your time.

Changed the gear lever bias plate with the box in position, not as bad as i thought, re-terminated the rev counter wire on the back of the alternator but still dodgy, heaters dont work cant find the fault, steering sorted and the radiators sat in the garage waiting to be fitted
So any help with rev counter, heaters appreciated
