Hi All,

Now that Irishrover has got the old girl running again, I thought I'd try and fix a few bits myself.

First, the tailgate has always been intermittent when opening. On pushing the button, nothing for a few seconds then a "whirring" type noise occurs from the left of centre side of the lower tailgate. Sometimes the latch then releases immediately, sometimes it takes a few more presses of the button. So, what should I look for?

Second, the sunroof has stopped working altogether. No sound on pressing the switch (either open or tilt). Message centre does say "sunroof not set" but that's because I've not been able to set it since re-fitting my BeCM and re-connecting the battery. So, what should I look for?

I've got a copy of RAVE (thanks John) and am reasonably "able". However, please answer as if I was a moron (words of one syllable would do nicely).

Thanks for listening.

The tailgate problem could well be related to the pushbutton & switch being full of ****e/corroded. Remove the carpeted panel on the lower tailgate. The button assembly is held by two self tapping screws. Disconnect the connector and remove the pushbutton. The switch itself is a "Bayonet" type fixing into the button body, twist to remove. Clean the switch and body, give the spring a coat of grease and reassemble. Reconnect the switch and try it before refitting to the tailgate. There is a sealing grommet which fits into the hole where the button goes, these can split or disappear allowing water and dirt inside the tailgate. They are peanuts to replace.
Check Fuse 1 (10amp) located in the Becm fusebox first....this controls the sunroof.
Also check Becm fuse F13 (20 amp)

Thanks John,

I've taken the switch apart and yep there's some dirt in there and the spring is corroded and in two bits. The switch itself (two springy metal bits that press down on two tiny buttons) looks clean and corrosion free and when I depress it manually I'm still having the intermittent release issue. With the carpet cover off I can see the solenoid/acctuator and it is this that is making the whirring sound. Is there any way to check if this is faulty?

Fuse 1 is ok (I've replaced it with another 10 amp to check anyway)

Cheers
Tim

I might have a spare tailgate latch solenoid knocking about, I'll have a look.

I have checked your Becm settings and the Sunroof is shown as fitted. Thought I may have missed it and entered it as "Not Fitted" !!!!!

Double check that you have connector 324 (Natural colour) correctly located in the Becm. It's the middle one located on the top row at the front of the Becm (Nearest the pedals)

Hi John,

Don't worry about the actuator, I can buy new for about 20 quid (it would probably cost more than that to post it from the Emerald Isle !!). I just wondered if there was a way to test my current one.

As for the sunroof, I had already checked the printouts you sent - sunroof shows as fitted!! I'll check the BeCM connection later this evening - got to go to work now.

Cheers
Tim

Hi All,

Sunroof fixed. Some knobhead........err me hadn't even plugged connector 324 back into the BeCM at all . In my defence.......actually I have no defence. Laugh away.
