Just noticed that from 12 noon today Sunday 8th August - SKY Home & Leisure
Channel 133 - rebuild of a Range Rover.

Starts at 12 noon right through to midnight, then presumably a shortened re-run
from midnight through to 5:30am Monday

Makes a change from Wet Nets on that channel!

2000 man hours at £40 per hour (estimate) == £80000
Scorpion Extreme suspension kit - £1500
Warn winch - £800
Heavyweight bumper - £300
Sand Ladders - £300
Modular Wheels - £240
Tyres - £700
Gearbox rebuild - £800???
Paint - £2500

Totally incomplete, but figure on at least £7140 without taking the manpower
into account - closer to £90k taking the manpower into account.

Hi Paul,

Modular wheels are cheaper than I thought. Do they come big enough for a
101, and where do you suggest ?
Thanks

That was a guess based on some prices I've seen locally. Doubt these ones
would suit a 101 I'm afraid.

I'm sure Martyn has some contacts who could help with that one though.

MODULAR.

The bit that goes on the studs is the easy bit.

I think it was pretty good, considering the fact that it (the programme, not
the 100") was designed from the start as a commercial venture for a mass
audience. A lot of good detailed info for those that don't chop up landy's
on a daily basis. Oh, and there's no getting away from the fact that he's a
damn good presenter. I built a 100" leafsprung many years ago, and it was a
great fun little tool. Why did I do a leafer? Long story, might explain one
day if anyone's actually interested!

BUT - speaking as an engine builder, I seriously cringed at his engine
rebuild, especially the state of the pistons that he fitted! And as for
linishing a pump face like that, no wonder the relief valve stuck so much
afterwards. Bet you those new shells are rubbing copper already, good thing
the v8 is so tolerant of such misuse.

Look at I2I productions website- the others in the series are available,
this one, not yet, but 15 quid on a DVD seems like a good deal to me.

The DVD is available to order on the Home and Leisure web site. It's due
out in the middle of September. The full series for 15 quid.

I wouldn't know about a 100 inch Series motor but a 100 inch Defender is,
IMV, the best configuration possible for a Land Rover. The stability and
comfort of the 100 inch wheelbase combined with the Defender body
configuration gives you the best of both worlds. I've tried off roading
a Range Rover classic and thought the wheelbase was OK but it suffered
from being too wide in the body and far too heavy. Same goes for the
Discovery. I seemed to spend a good deal of my time panel beating after
every competition.

The Defender body on a 100 inch chassis gives the ride and handling of a
Range Rover with a narrow body and easy to repair panels.

I built mine last year so may be a little biased though :) Mine is a
better vehicle than the one built in the series but doesn't look as
pretty !

cheers
