On Saturday I will be going to liverpool to view a disco it's got off road spec.. 12 months MOT .. 198.000 miles
He says that a lot of welding has been done to all the usual rotten places.. boot. Sills.. etc
I want to know what to look out for and listen out for on the way home to Hull (if I buy it)

Any advice would be helpful as I'm a 4x4 newbie ;)
Mechanic by trade though so I know most things

Take a screw driver and have a poke around still and see if it has been welded. And just any kind of noises from bearing to prop uj. Youl get noise from offroad tyres but im sure youl be fine

Lift boot carpet, and check behind plastic sill cover. Check for wet interior they leak from a variety of places. Check for slack in drivetrain which can be a £25 fix or a new gearbox (mainshaft splines). Engines usually strong but hg do go and fuel system gets a bit old and porous. Not hard to fix either and new head is cheap. Its just body rust. Oh yeah, make sure abs light comes on then goes out. If not, its half price!

boot floor ,rear body crossmember and under the rear seats next to the wheel arches are the rustyest bits on mine so lift the carpets and have a good poke round there

If it hasnt been welded you will know as you will get your hand in the holes you leave (if its anything like mine !)
