Hi I am rebuilding my 90 and I am trying to work out if I should replace with standard or out a 2inch lift. I have read lots of differnt views but still not sure can any one please tell me the pros on cons of both many thanks for looking at this Simon

depends what you want it for, road work std heavy duty springs and gas shockers off road you might want tall soft springs for articultion and any where in between

I would like to spend about £800 ish not sure if the britpart stuff is good or cheap rubbish

My britpart springs have sagged 1" to one side after only 3 months if youve got £800 to spend purely on suspension you could easily buy old man emu springs and some terrafirma shocks for that money

Hard top? Winch? Carrying some tools/equipment spare wheel in the rear?

I used Red/Whites approx 3 inches higher Free height but softer 175Lbs inch than Std defender rear springs I think approx 200Lbs/inch.

I have now truckcabed my 90 for this years trials comps will be removing the chunk of weight mainly the winch and tubular front bumper and fitting comp legal tyre. The Nationals is in Kings Lynn this year quite localish. Red Whites have been great so far Hard top bit of weight but now they are Way too stiff! I'm going to go for 133Lbs an inch although no where near as tall softer is always better for the trials comps I'm not a fan of stupid articulation see my other replies but 133Lbs/inch will be great for my needs Well this year anyway.

You need to find out what you want from it. Don't buy a "lift kit" many are just stiffer springs that will jar your back and not articulate as LR intended unless seriusly laiden. Weight is a huge penalty offroad there is an argument that a lightweight vehicle for instance a V8 series say weighting 1200Kgs all up will outperform many heavier motors ground clearance for ground clearance. (well except for the g-box xmember that is)

Join a Landy club that does trials Learn to really drive your landy will out perform many with a lift kit in a std vehicle. I'd personally spend the money on 2 difflocks and be done with it **** off alot of people. Don't forget a decent set of tyres. I'm not a fan of the septic tank look with stupid wide wheels sticking out but what ever floats your boat.

With a lift kit you will need cranked trailing and radius arms. lift kits also put alot of strain on the prop shafts and i have even found the bushes in the panard rod suffer.

all these can be cured with really expensive after market parts. I would price these before you fit a lift kit.

Also worth a mention LR genuine Propshafts have way more angle on them than Britpart supplied ones this was proved last weekend while fitting to a series vehicle the old ones in GWO except spline wear din not bind or get near to binding whereas the cheaper £60 propshaft bound up good n Propper!

wiltshire landyman is right, you dont need cranked arms.
i have not had probs with my +2" beamach springs but have seen loads of landys with britpart springs that have probs as they tend to be more like a 3" lift unlike the 2"lift they should be.
