Hey all,

My dads fixing a Land rover with some 8 spoke 15" wheels, they have quite a decent offset on them , just wondering if the 16" types have the same offset, I'm asking because the tyres are just sticking out of my dads mates Defender, and so are mine but I have alloy wheels and spacers and am hoping to get rid of them, not too keen on keeping them with the insurance companies, but I don't want to lose the wide stance :D

In other words, if I have 8 spokes without spacers, will the wheels be in the same place (width) as alloy wheels with 30mm spacers?

Thanks :)

Its impossible to know without seeing them or without you measuring the offset.

Can you post a piccy with a ruler so we can see?

I believe standard defender offset is as follows:

5.5" 33mm positive

6.5" 20mm positive

7" 14mm positive

8" 1mm positive

10" 24mm negative

It should be printed/stamped onto the inside of the rim somewhere.

There was a thread on another forum with how you measure it, ill try and find it.

Thanks :D that was very comprehensive, I think that the 15" ones on my dads mates defender are negative offset, they seem very 'deep dish' :D
Found some D modulars on eBay, £240 16x8 with a -32mm offset which makes up for the loss of wheel spacer, my dad wants the spacers and my old alloys, so no loss :D He uses his 90 once a week if that, so spacers wont be too bad, I use mine everyday, so better off with offset rims :)

Thanks for your help :D

Going back Matt, I now know that most, and my, discovery alloy are +33mm 16x7
Some modulars and wellers are usually +8 or +ll, and then if you have a look around there are plenty of negative modulars :D
If I went for the same size 16x7, and got wheels with an offset around 0 then without spacers my wheels would be pretty much in the same place as they are now with the spacers, but I plan to go up to 16x8 next so I can fit 285/75 tyres :D

It gets quite confusing because 16x8 with 0 offset is deeper dish than 16x7 with the same offset, because you need a larger + offset to compensate for the larger width rim, I think I got that right anyway :p

It may be worth speaking to Silverline if you've not already bought the wheels. He did me a very good deal on my 8x16 modulars (neg 32 offset) and 285 cooper STTs. I now have a great turning circle, no spacers and seem to eat fewer wheel bearings than with spacers.

Yeah :D I'll probably be after some new tyres next year, so I'll probably go for a wheel and tyre package in Billing or Peterborough if silverline are there, because it's a cheaper way of doing it, as I've said I'm not keen on modulars, the D-Modulars look ok, but I'd rather have some Mach 5's and get them made exactly how I want them :) would get Zu's but they only come in 16x7 and to fit 285 tyres I need 16x8's
