All,
Been a way for a while.
I have decided to start rebuilding my original engine as the one in there is getting very smelly. Runs alright though.
Anyhow, pulled the pistons out last weekend and all looks pretty good on the crank side but the rings were absolutely knackered. Most of them just fell off when the piston emerged from the bore.
The strange thing is that these pistons have 4 sets of rings and the ones I have seen before only 3 - 2 small rings and an oil scraper. These ones have two oil scrappers?

Any ideas?

Lastly any one got any tips, do and don't etc..

Pretty sure my old 2 litre diesel had oil scrapers at the bottom as well

Thanks for the info. Shame as one of the pistons is knackered. A snapped ring doubled itself and widened the piston gap. Do you know if it makes better sence to replace all pistons or just the affected one - provided I can get one.

petrol.
Do you think its worth putting a better cam in there while its in bits. I have heard that you can sex up the petrols quite a bit without loosing out on torque.
