300tdi electrical fault

Right I have had a search on line and on this site but can't find any helpful information :mad2: so here goes.

Still in the process of getting my d1 ready for its mot and was testing all the lights and wipers/washers when I found out that when I press the demister/heated rear screen the tail lights come on. It's only the ones on the main clusters not the bumper ones??

Has anyone came across a fault like this before? If so help

i would think the only way that could happen is if the rear tail loights on the main cluster have been wired up to the switch, as you have the tail lights on the bumper (as ours is) it sounds like someone has just wired the main cluster to the switch, easy enough to reverse or just leave it. i just linked ours to the main cluster so tail lights on the cluster and bumper come o at the same time.

If it's not some ones 'bodge' and it is a fault, then with automotive electrical faults such as one circuit functioning when another is switched on can point to an iffy earth connection.

Bad earth is what I am thinking, tail lights come on and off with there own switch and also with the rear demister. Looks like I need to get the multi meter out and work this one out
