Hi all, please bear with me! My missus's friend needs to sell her disco but it won't start!! It's a 300 TDi, the battery is new, but flat! i put some heavy duty jump leads from my TDV6 to it-so enough juice- and tried to turn it over-it just clicks as does not turn over? poss solenoid in starter motor? fuse/relay somewhere? she is currently trying to sell and has an interested buyer-but wants to see running!! all help welcomed! i good with a spanner but have little knowledge of the TDi!!and can't find the damn starter motor to give it a percussion adjustment!!lol
Also pricing? does anyone have an idea as to value(once running) its a 1997 R plate 300 TDi GS Y seat, 145k, 11 months MOT met blue!apart from not starting its ok/nice condition and had £800 spent for MOT in Jan(engine mounts inc) she just needs an honest opinion and to get it fixed!! all help gladly welcomed:welcome2:

Flat battery + **** jump leads, dodgy solenoid, bad connections on starter, poor earth.

my money's on flat battery and ****e leads.

where did you connect the jump leeds too?

cool, i will try a different set of lead on it, i just went from my Disco 3 battery to it's battery! will have another look tomorrow and keep updated

no Idea if it was a good price I paid £1750 for my R plate with similar milage mind you mine does run :D

you can try and wack the starter motor at the same time you turn the ignition...

the starter is on the right hand side of the engine, behind the turbo and below the exhaust manifold...

its a pain to get it out if you it first time, i've taken mine out so many times I can do it in 5min. :D

i had the exact same problem at new year with a brand new battery that was flat, tried jumping it nearly burned good jump leads out. i took the battery off all together and charged it over night put it back on , fired up straight away but i hade wasted a week messing on with the starter motor and jumping it, charge ur battery !

Your all spot on-Was the jump leads not being man enough for the job-put on a decent set and she fired straight away and the battery seems to hold the charge! thanks all
