What do you think the problem is most likely to be?

My disco is ill. :( Basically it won't do more than 10mph and has trouble revving past 2k rpm.

At first when I start it up, it will rev fine, up to 5k rpm no problem but soon after I start driving, it will just be very sluggish and barely revs. Periodically though, the power will come back and will rev to 5k rpm without a problem but moments later, (within 20 seconds or so) it will go back to being totally sluggish.

So far I have just changed my fuel filter. The AA man thinks it's because the veggie oil is to thick but it's mixed with diesel. (Had to get the AA man to tow me home behind his van else it would have taken me a week to get home!)

Any ideas?
 
I was thinking either fuel pump or fuel blockage. Is it likely to be either?

Also, yesterday I put in 2 litres of used vegetable oil and although I did filter it, I noticed that some crap got in the tank but not very much.
 
What's the easiest way to disconnect all the fuel lines and clean them? Haven't done this before...

Do the fuel lines for a disco run on the drivers side above the main chassis frame?

You did change your fuel filter after 500-1000 miles and then again after another 1000-2000 miles I take it?

Had the car since early july and have changed the fuel filter twice since then.
 
run it off a bottle of derv,fed to the lift pump-if this solves your trouble,you know the problem is between lift pump and tank-what state is the sedimenter in?

I cut my sediment filter out, couldn't get it apart and the stoopid drain is ****, and it's probably in the worst place possible. The main filter is easy to get to and gets a heat from the engine, and it can be drained down.

As mentioned probably the fuel pump, get a decent one.
 
try pumping it manually if there is very little resistance on the arm then its fooked or no fuel in the pipe
 
After the landy had been sat for a few hours, I took it out for another test drive. It drove perfectly for around 3 miles at 45-50mph and as soon as I went above that, the problem occurred again and had trouble getting above 30 mph and could only manage 5-10mph on steep hills. I am no expert but by my logic, this suggests that it's not caused by fuel blockage? (can someone confirm if my logic is right?)

By the time I had found the sedimenter (I am new to discos) I had run out of light. It looks like a bastard to get off too.

Should I buy this?:

Why are they so cheap? IIRC when I was looking for fuel pumps for the gaylander TD4, they were over £300!

undo the 10mm bolt at the top,to drop the whole unit-don't mess with the plastic drain at the bottom,they snap.
thats the right sort of price for a delphi-mine was £22 ish

Get the delphi one from Matt Savage, £27.05 delivered

Gaylander fuel pumps are electronic, these are mechanical

Do I need a C spanner to remove the fuel lift pump? I don't have any of these...
