My grandfather has a 1996 Discovery 1 300 series with a 3.9L injected v8 under the hood. a while back i got it stuck in a river and since then it's been doing this funny thing when you're driving along, it cuts in and out. its like its got a sudden fuel starvation.

anyone else had this problem?
if so what's the fix?

Just to say welcome to the forum and feel free to introduce yourself next time. When fording the river did your father protect all electrics that might get exposed to water? Is his vehicle fairly water tight to prevent main fuses from water ingress? First replace fuel filter first. check leads leading to the spark plugs. hope this helps and welcome to landyzone.

thanks,
he is new to the world of off roading and he didn't protect anything.
it is fairly stock with only a lift and bigger mud terrain tyres.
i will try those pointers you said and go from there.

Almost certainly electrical, best suggestions would be remove the distributor cap, clean it and check for signs of condensation. Then check the ignition amplifier. Remove, clean and refit all connections on the coil. Remove, clean and refit main earth (battery to chassis). I don't know on a Disco but on a RRC there is another bundle of earth points under the radiator header tank; undo the connection, clean it all up smear with silicon grease and reassemble.
