Hi people please can you help me. My Range Rover was running now it's not I've got new leads and plugs and has a new solnoid. I noticed that my fuel pump wasn't working on turn over so wired a positive to it and works pumped fuel all the way to fuel rail inlet. Will not pump fuel with turn of key though!!
Could this mean a problem with fuel relay?? That then tells the ecu there's a problem if it can't see any talk as such.

Engine turns over fine battery good plenty of fuel when I changed plugs after trying to start all bone dry

Help much appreciated people thankyou

Guessing yours is around a 1993 model year??

The ECU gets is 'Engine turning' signal from the LT side of the coil....there should be a white/black wire with a resistor in it that leads to the ECU, this gives the Coil is Firing signal to the ECU as the dizzy is firing the coil so the engine must be turning...the ECU then closes the fuel pump relay and introduces fuel...

Check the relay is functioning by bench testing (it is silver topped and has a diode fitted - can be tell-taled by the diode symbol on the relay circuit diagram on top)

If that works, and the wire from the coil to ECU is sound, it could be the ECU is not registering the Engine Turning Over signal correctly.

Now, when my 3.9 classic refused to start, I traced this down to a duff ignition amp on the side of the Dizzy....worth a look at too. Some Autofactors can test the amp...free if it is duff and you buy a new one...or my local will charge £5 if it tests OK....

Could even be the coil!
