Hi

Just been given a 1989 3.5 EFI Vogue that's been stood in a garden for 3 years. It was running but won't now, turn's over and will eventualy run on very slight tick over (dunt sound as if it's running on all pots) then stalls, won't rev!!

There is a good spark, seems to be petrol when you undo the union next to the inlet manifold, put not at the return?

Seems like a fuel problem. Is there a fuel pump somewhere?? filters to change change?

Be gentle as I have to admit I don't know a lot about these lumps! yet !

Cheers Jason

The fuel filter..from memory, is behind the r.h. rear wheel arch and the pipe nuts are a pain in the ass to undo..they are usually solid.
I take it you have checked for fuel pressure at the fuel rail which runs around the inlet manifold ?
I think the fuel pump is inside the tank, but may be wrong. Check for fuel flow and pressure at the connection nearest the bulkhead where the feed from the tank is connected to the fuel rail.

The fuel rail is a "Pipe which runs along both sides of the inlet manifold , it's a "U" shape and has the 8 injectors attached to it together with a couple of sensors and a tyre type valve and cap which is used for checking the fuel pressure.

If you have the "Tyre" type valve on the fuel rail, depress it to see if you have fuel pressure there, it will spurt out OR slacken the connector nut on the pipe from the tank to the fuel rail, it is just above the l.h. rocker cover (Looking from the front) close to the bulkhead, and switch the ignition on briefly..it should p**s out.

You just need to make sure that fuel is getting through at a decent pressure.

I thought the 89/90 EFI 3.9 (As apposed to the 3.5 88/89) was the first to have CPS & gizmos ect(i.e NO Dizzy ect)

None of the Lucas CUX injection engines have CPS etc as the injection system was never designed to control the engine that closely. I think you'll find the more sophisticated injection systems started with the 4.0L Serpentine engines with Gems and later Thor systems.

have you checked the vacume advance pipe going to the dizzy from the plenum, just a pipe. if i remember it is black with a green stripe??? has a non return valve in it too???

when i had a rrc 3.5 my bro bro decided he would wind me up by disconnecting mine, gave the same symptoms. poor to start when it eventually did it would idle but cut out if i tried to rev.

may be worth checking the maf sensor too. i think it could give the same symptoms.

have you looked at the ignition amplifier?
little black on the dizzy, when mine popped it ran like ass, but not sure what other symptoms they cause

Is it cranking at all?maybe new dizzy, ht leads n sparks seing as its been sat so long. why was it sat-staring trouble maybe? do you think the starters working ok?
