Had to do a long journey this weekend, thetford in Norfolk to Caterham in surrey, then to Bracknell then back to thetford again. To try and save a bit of money unbolted the roof rack and took the prop of so the car was in mondo mode. I am amazed at the difference, car drove really well and used a lot less fuel. Think the prop will be coming off in future for long journeys. I'm off to Cornwall next month for a week so will be coming off again for that.

Why not go the whole hog and streamline all the cars panel gaps at the front with gaffer tape? Maybe take off the wing mirrors too?

Radio ariel? Does that cause drag?

Mind that if you have an accident where your car gets assessed by the insurance when it's in mondo mode they won't be best pleased!

lol

and good point about the insurance - mind you i wouldnt have a leg to stand on

That is a very good point about the insurence, had not considered that. I almost got taken out by a Pajero towing a caravan on the QE2 bridge. There were some right ****in lunatics on the road this weekend. What sort of tape do you reckon i should use? I used most of the sellotape in the house remounting my ird :)

Hi
Did you have to mark the flanges and mounting points before you took the prop off or is it ok just to remove and then replace.

Was this a driffernt trip to what you normaly do, ie loads of motorway/dualcarrageway driving, in compared to just pootling around your local area, I always thought my Freelanders Fuel consumption was not that bad...once you got on a Dual carrage way and could cruise along, at a senseable speed. I used to be on the A12 into london most days...

Someone should develop a mod that can engage/disengage the propshaft electronically. That would be cool.

if your not gonna use the aided traction, stability and mechanical braking of a 4wd motor then just buy a diesel estate............
