hi can anyone help, just got my first freelander 1.8 and whilst I've got the propshaft in the boot, there are no bolts! has anyone got the specs of them all or point me to where i can got them.

Just as well it hasn't got the bolts - you'll probably be on to your 2nd Freelander PDQ if you install it!

It will have been taken off for a reason - and if the seller told you it was to make it more fuel efficient, then definitely don't install it.

If he gave you a valid reason that he/you have fixed - then go fo it.

As Nodge says, check the VCU - that's probably the reason it was taken off - they go to stiff which creates wind up in the transmission and blows the front or rear diff - or both.

Do a search and understand how the Freelander transmission works and make a judgement of whether you think it sage to reinstate 4WD - or aske away further here.

As Nodge says - what ever has gone on in the past and what ever reasons you think it is OK to reinstate 4WD, test the VCU - do the 1 wheel up test and see what times you get. Also do not even consider reinstating 4WD unless you have all matching make & model tyres - and that means matching make and model.

Good luck :)

Sorry to be a harbinger of doom
However, many times when the VCU has been removed the damage is already done to the IRD. The IRD can run happily with prop disconnected (2WD) and also with quite extensive damage to the crownwheel and pinion. It is only when you apply load to it that you realise the need to open your wallet and say after me "HELP YOURSELF"
As GG rightly observed - nobody ever takes them off for 'economy' reasons, they just lie about it when they sell it and them rush in the house rubbing their hands together with head back shouting Mohahahahahahah...............

You may have found the one person in the world that didn't lie through their teeth - so finger crossed. --- also for the 1.8 K series.......
