I've a 2005 landrover freelander 1 td4 bmw engine and the bottom bolt on the alternator has snapped from where it bolts into not the bit on the alternator the bit the bolt goes into. If I'm asking sense. Is this a bracket attached to engine or is it all part of the engine?

Will the alternator be OK with top bolt and the bolt at the back? Or will I need all 3 bolts fitted and if so how do I fix this

Not 100% sure on the td4 but on a lot of engines the alternator bolts on to a aluminium bracket that bolts to the engine block

Have a look here. https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.com/parts/index/hierarchy/id/4.55805.56260/brand/land-rover/

If there isn't a separate bracket then you'll need to drill out & re-tap the mounting hole, leaving it with two fixings will end up with the alternator castings fracturing and then you'll need an alternator as well.
I think it's this bit that has snapped off the cast iron bit. I'm hoping it can be fixed. The part I have done in blue is my alternator and the bottom bolt is still attached to alternator and the back has the snapped cast iron bit attached still where you can see on picture where it's snapped. Hoping that is a separate part you can buy

It's the part in blue that has snapped off the other bit from above link I think is still OK. It's the bit I've marked in blue. I think the bolt goes through that and then into the other part. But I'm not sure and was hoping someone could shed some light for me so I know what to order or if it can even be fixed. I was thinking metal epoxy to glue it back on but not sure if that be strong enough

I thought you said the bolt had snapped in the mounting bracket?
No the top bolt has snapped in the hole it bolts into and that can come out. The back bolt is OK as well. But the front bottom bolt is still in the alternator and what it bolts into has snapped off and is still attached to the alternator.

Ok thanks if it is the lower timing case and the alternator bracket behind is still OK could I not clue that part back onto the timing case with metal clue and then as long as the bolt goes into the alternator bracket it should still hold and be OK?

I wouldn't have thought so for a heartbeat, there is no adhesive that will hold two bits of metal together as well as the original casting, if BMW/LR could have used a washer or spacer, they would have done so. IMO, either replace or repair with a TIG welder, even then, it depends on the quality of the alloy as to how effective a weld would be.

It's this bit in blue. If that bit gets clued on with metal epoxy and then I out the back bolt into the support bracket and the top bolt in. Then this bottom bolt might hold ok? As does it goe through this and then into a support bracket?
