hi, I have a set 265/75/16 bfg tyers and genuine 16inch xs wheels, for some strange reason they will not balence on a machine, I have tryed many different tyre fitters and no joy, if you take the weights off and start fresh, put the wheel on a machine, then put the weights to where it states, spin again and then it comes up as balenced, take the wheel off, rotate it, put it back on machine spin it, then it will be out by a good bit, the problem I am having the wheels are eating the pas drop arm, and panhard bushes, give it a couple of months after renewing the l/r shakes badly after 35mph, please help

i have 35/11.50/15 simex type tyres on modulars and one wheel/tyre needed 1kg of weight to balance it..
surely its just a case of finding the right company to balance them

i have modulars with 33x12.5 on. when they balanced them he asked if i wanted weights on inside only to look good (brand new wheels) or outside too for better balance. i went for better balance just a thought.
sounds like you need to find a better tyre fitter to me. i use the one who sorts out all the farmers with tractors etc.

Ask them to turn the tyres on the rims a bit and retry.

I have 265/75/r16 on my 110.... I was amazed at the amount of lead on one of the wheels to balance it, must be 6 inches of the stuff. What rims are you using? I am using original Land Rover alloy rims marked 7Jx16x33.0AH2. I spotted a set of 4 of these on ebay and reckon they could go for about £50. I bought a spare for £11.

Would I be correct in saying the tyres are All terrains and they are secondhand or worn?
Yeah sounds like you could do with going to a better fitters personally.
Although if even then you still get problems, I think theres some gunge (sort of like the anti puncture stuff) that you can put in your tyres that keeps them balanced, and it doesnt solidify so they will remain balanced peoperly even if the tyres wear uneavenly.

All four of my wheels (235x85xr16) have at least a 30cm length run of weights around the rim, more so at the back 
I painted them black to match the rims. It's on my list of things to do to try these balancing beads / have another garage attempt to balance them better (with less lead).

had same problem on standard size on 110. they couldnt even get them to sit square on their shiny new balancer. said wheels were buckled to ****,balanced them okay on his old balancer(30 year old). a lot of the new machines cant cope with anything bigger than a dinky toy

Yep. Balance beads are good. Balance powder however isn't any good unless there is an air dryer on the airline used to inflate the tyres. It just clumps up and causes even worse vibrations when moisture gets to it.

Try driving them without - you never know you might not notice the difference. I don't on my Series III

I have a 110 and must agree with Mr. JC. Was lucky to pick up a set of four 7Jx16x33.OAH2 at the show in Peterbo' couple of weeks back. Went straight on with no balance issues at all. Cost £50.00 3 good tyres federal A/T's replaced one cost £50.00. Good deal I Thought.
You may find balance is the issue, however might be worth checking both sets of wheel bearings and front bushes as well.
My Landie 110 is a 1995 300Tdi with 159,000 miles on the clock, just run in nicely, and although well serviced, front bushes/bearings have been a major cause of steering vibration for me.
