Hi all,

Recently an RRS owner.

Does anyone know much about the rear adjustable tie rods, mainly, do they have a bend in the threaded portion (2010 L320)? Both sides have the same bend. The car is booked in for a full wheel alignment so I will change them before if they are supposed to be dead straight.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Yes right by the threaded part they are slightly bent both sides

When u have the 4 x wheel alignment done also ensure it’s in right tolerance mode and they also check and reset ur steering wheel angle sensor , other wise if it will light ur dash board up like a xmas tree and when turning corner the DSC system will kick in , they should do all of that for u

Also ensure ur steering wheel is straight after they’ve done the adjustments

Hunter alignment systems are the ones u need and will also give u a printout

Plus hopefully there be able to undo the rear upper and front lower wishbone bolts as they can seize solid inside the bushings

Hope that helps

Hi

That’s mine and know what u mean , all of them are however within spec

No tyre scrubbing , inner and outer all fine

Done by a company over in Surrey which I finally found after many of the D3/4 owners go to

Ok so operator error for not putting in the right spec at beginning of test?

It’s just that if you didn’t know the spec and saw red boxes one would think they haven’t done the job right.

Indeed, I was worried at first but heard of 100s of other disco owners going there and garage is very well respected in they know what there doing

Had to get it done after my replacing wishbones , wow , it drove like a different vehicle after , on the motorway it just remained very well planted with no wander at all , suspension felt like a magic carpet in how comfortable and smooth the ride now is

Just peace of mind knowing the garage knew how to set up all four wheels properly

Awesome. Thanks all.

I was worried the car had been side swiped and had bent them.

I’ve booked mine in to JLR to get it done on the hope they know exactly what needs doing and also have the right kit.
Been stung a few times with the steering wheel not being centred which annoys the hell out of me.

Wow! Going to the stealer to get them done! Are there no independent specialists near you?

It’s about £100 so I’m fairly happy with that.

For some reason, wheel alignment seems to be one of those things I’ve never been happy being done by an independent. Or should I say, have never been happy with the results.

I’m sure there are some great ones out there but as a new owner, I’m finding my feet with who’s best to go to - Gloucestershire.

Try looking in local LZers. See if anyone is near you and can recommend an independent. You will find, slowly, but surely, that a dealer is not interested in working on an old RRS. They will happily supply parts, at silly prices. They will also replace co plete systems , when only a small part needs fixing. Not forgetting their hourly labour rate is approx double that of an independent
My own dealer told me a few years ago, to 'come back on Friday, the guy we have who might know old cars will be in then".
Independent or self-spanner is the way, when you have an old JLR vehicle.

Hopefully. I have a good local garage but for the first alignment I wanted it to be checked out properly. I’m pretty lucky that I run a full workshop in my spare time that has a 2 and 4 poster ramp and I’ve been working on cars for years, Most jobs will be ok. The RRS seems a doddle to work on. It seems that if something won’t come off, pull it or hit it harder:) , well apart from the electrics

I admire your faith that the stealer will do a good job. That has not always been my experience. Many of them pay peanuts and employ monkeys.
