300 - 200 = 100. Therefore the difference is 100 tdi.

our 200tdi disco is simpler with less electrickery than my fathers 300tdi, less gimics to go expensivly wrong i guess... apart from that they do the same job.in much the same way

300 has EGR which it is better off without, 300 has rubber doughnut on prop which wears out... 200 has neither of these... 200 is less err complicated, older and cheaper?
some parts on the 200 are getting harder to find (like the exhaust front pipe I've just won on ebay for £25... yippee) but come to think of it, that is the only bit I've had trouble with and it's 'cos it's an auto!
although the same basic engine... the turbo is slightly different and there are 2 alternater/powersteering belts on the 200 and only 1 big one on the
300, some parts like the radiator are not a straight swap 'cos the plumbing is different etc...

200tdi's tend to have more torque than the 300tdi's. the 300tdi's apparently have a better top speed. but with a vehicle that weighs nearly 3 tonne who wants it to be mega fast, so imo 200tdi is the better of the 2. although i do own a 300 tdi and have'nt struggled anywhere as yet.

id say the 200's have a bullet proof engine and can work for ages my old one had just over190k but it was well looked after but my 300 now could be just as good with some care and attention and yes there is stupid thing on the 300 like egr wich blocks up and you either spend lots of cash and replace it or u spend a couple of quid and get rid of it but it still leaves percanly i think i would rather have the 200 engine but thats cos its simple to work on
