This is an intermittent fault, started in mostly 5th gear under load, but today lost power in every gear and ended up hard shoulder, sat of a couple of mins engine off, restarted fine.
Home fine, went to restart to leg it out again powerloss again 5th and sixth
No engine management lights
No smoking
Extra problem is on a warm restart it turns over and then cuts out unless you catch throttle quick
Any ideas anyone had the same?

James Martin might have a diagnosis, why not send him a pm?

Sounds like the EGR valve to me, When they first came out there was a problem with the software in the PCM and they were over sensitive to fuel pressure and EGR issues so we did a software update to them all to stop the warning light coming on. They do have EGR faults, I change quite a few. Try unplugging the EGR whilst cold and see how you go, though it won't help if it is stuck open but from your symptoms it might be sticking when hot which could be why it cuts out on hot start. If all that fails get the fault codes checked.

Had fault codes checked two days ago, it came up with only air flow switch so changed that but problem still persisted, but I've no smoke now :)
But thanks will try unplugging egr
Is it easy to get at?

The plug is under the inlet manifold at the rear, if you look down you will see the EGR .
The PCM check that the EGR is working by looking for a drop in air flow when the EGR is commanded to open if it doesn't see it it will put in a fault code for the MAF.

I agree with egr valve. Vauxhalls and saabs often come up as air leak on inlet when they have an egr fault instead of showing an actual egr fault.
