Ive got my MOT on Monday so its time to change the cracked headlight Ive had since sliding into a tree stump 6 months ago.

Trying to remove the bumper first to gain access to the headlight. The Haynes manual gave the job a 2 spanner rating so expected a fairly easy job. So far its been a b*stard.

Have removed the 3 scrivels below the number plate. Removed the 4 screws securing the bumper valance underneath the car. Removed the screws on each wheel arch to gain access to the 10mm bolt holding the bumper to the inner wing. Finally removed the 4 screws at the top edge securing the bumper to the slam panel.

Done all this and the bumper is not moving!!

Any advice on this would greatly appreciated.

cheers

Have you removed the screw at the very bottom of the wheel arch. The screw heads would be facing down to the road. There are two on each side. The bumper basically sits over the bumper bar where the no plate is. Plus by any chance is your. Number plate screwed on. If it is they may have screwed the plate to the bumper bar. Hope this helps.

Td4 2005 face lift model.

Job all done I had infact taken the wrong bolt out - the 10mm one that holds the bumper to the inner wing. I'd taken one out about 6" lower.
Really must sort my eyeight out

thanks all

Many T,s useful thread. I have to remove the O/S head light to drill a hole in the side plate to remove the Jubile clip holding the turbo hose as the head is against the plate no way to get to it. Special Thanks to whoever fitted that pipe !!!

What.:eek: You removed the bumper and drilled a hole in the side of the body to access a boost pipe clip.
That's nuts. Just cut the bloody clip with a sharp chisel and replace it with the drive facing up.

They're all fitted that way round as the pipes are fitted from below when the vehicle is built. It takes 2 seconds to cut it off, so is not an issue. ;)

Oh ye "what a t**t" im Deffenatly over engineering that problem, cheers
Am I a bad person for finding it quite satisfying and a little amusing that other people sometimes make the same sort of weird decisions that I might make?

Its what I like about this forum, there's almost always people who can help with a problem, and also others that make you feel "normal". Its also great when they're the same person on different threads - so please stick around :)

I nearly spat my breakfast out this morning when I read that. I've been chuckling about it all day, even if it's a little rude of me. It just made smile, because I'm sure we've all done things the wrong or long way on occasion.

You really don't need to remove the bumper to change headlights. A small wooden wedge shoved carefully between the bottom of the headlight and the bumper will give sufficient access to those bottom bolts. A long 10mm spanner will reach easily and they only need to be slackened off to remove the units.
Removing the top wing bolts makes taking the units out easier.
