Hi, just upgraded my freelander to the 2004 on model, relatively easy this is how its done. I do not know how to upload pics to this thread so if you need any help, contact me by email. All parts purchased from ebay. Parts req
1.Front bumper 70-85 100 tops do not pay more as there are plenty about, do not buy with damaged colour coded side panels, as these are not replaceable, bumper is a 1 piece unit, with no parts available.
2.2004 onwards headlights, missed a pair at 99 paid 140 this seems to be the going rate, but have been told new ones are only 100 new
3. Rear bumper 40-50 plenty available, plus bumper lights, indicator and brake square shape plenty available on ebay at 19 plus postage 25 from main dealer
4. New REAR FOG and REVERSING lights, only available from breakers 60.00 when you fit rear bumper you have a 1 1/2" gap between bumper and lights New lights have an extra bit of reflector on bottom
5. Lastly plastic trim for bottom of tailgate, you do not need this but i think it finishes off conversion.NOT available from anywhere except main dealer small part to right of spare wheel 20.00 large part 104.00 OUCH and 12. for new badge.
All in costs less than 500, dependant on how far you want to go. i colour coded mine myself, 2 cans of spray paint from your local paint shop and 1 can of lacquer

hello

cheers dean

Hi just starting out on this task. Can any share some pics of what it would look like so i can see the finished result. cheers

i had planed on finishing mine this week, got the bumpers painted ready, but as im now £200.00 lite this week coz of a scrote beaking into my car last night i really cannot be arsed any more......
i will be posting a step by step when i decide to do it.
i have also made a loom for the lights using molex plugs from maplin.
i shall be doing the same, with that soon.

A guide to the wiring would be very helpful, can you list the maplin parts as well so I know what to buy from them
Was hoping to do the front upgrade soon but having to buy a new IRD box has put that plan on hold for a while

After facelifting a couple of these on the outside, i have decided to turn my attention to the inside, i have just done the door panels, very easy to do,When you get panels make sure you get the interior pull handles as well. Drill pop rivets out of old handle and mount new handle, mounts slightly higher, and to the right, and goes straight into your original locking mechanism.Door panel needs 2 plastic lugs cut of from top of back then goes straight on. To get position for interior handle, mount door panel, insert plastic handle surround into panel and mark on door where the screw hole is, this will give you a point from which you can line up your interior handle. Straight forward, with no problems and brings your interior up to date

re the door cards -

which bit did you have to remove / cut off

how did you screw in door handles ? - self tappers ??

got some door cards thrown in for nowt when I bought seats but didnt get opening levers / handles - you know where there are any ???

cheers

Chris

Hi
rear door cards have 2 black plastic locating dowels sticking out at top, remove these, goes straight on no further cutting of rear panel
front panel remove the one sticking out at top
drill out old handle, and cover aperature with masking tape, put panel on door, fit handle cover and mark securing hole. line up new handle against this hole, and you have your position.
i used self tappers on rear handles as they dont get much use, and used rivnuts for the front ones.
I use a landrover breakers near me for the bits Dalcrue auto salvage, good selection of parts, and descent prices. John is good to deal with also. They have plenty of handles on the breakers

Thanks Stuart

Ill give it a go !!

The opening handles - did you get them with the cables attached ie do you need to use cables from new handles ??

Chris

how expensive are those handles - only found 1 place with em at the moment and he wants £70 !!!!!!

he did say they would be a lot cheaper if I didnt need the cables !!

Stuart - can you confirm whether I need the cables

thanks

Chris

you need cables, slightly different fitting to yours, although may be able to convert
send me pm with your email address and i will photograph them tomorrow, and send you it and see what you think yourself. i will have a look myself to see if you can use originals. Will try my guy to see what he wants
