(For diesels only obviously!)
Anyone got any thoughts on using 1/2 ltr of non-synth 2 stroke oil in the fuel as a way of cleaning the engine/injectors etc.? it has been suggested by me but am wary of damage to a). Engine...b). cat/exhaust....c). anything else!!
Have got L322 2002 3.0L TD6. thoughts anyone?

Plus its likely to smoke like a dragon!

I agree with gavbriggs, for £4 or so, you might as well just buy the stuff.

I use some petrol in the car, it duz no harm and will act as a cleaner, people in the old days used to use petrol in the winter because diesel would wax up and go hard in the cold, they even used to light a small fire, much like a parifin lamp under the truck to get it warm, but what with additives and anti foaming agents in the stuff now, its no longer necessary to do this any more, also its worth knowing if you put some (just a small cap full) of Isopropyl alcohol in the tank it will get rid of any laying water in it for you, it attaches to the water molecules (apparently) and burns them off as you use what's in the tank, so cleaning all the small droplets of water out of it, its the same stuff you use to clean your CDs with, you can buy it dead cheep from Maplins

When ULS diesel first came out alot of injector pumps packed up as a result of it washing rather than oiling the pumps internals. Two stroke oil was used to combat this and it worked well. The poxy little Stanadyne pumps that were used on the GMC 5.7,6.2 and 6.5 v8 diesels were prone to trashing themselves, with a 2% addition of two stroke oil they would last for ages.(Unlike the engine itself in most cases.)

Why not try some Redex type stuff, i use it regularly and my smoke test results at MOT time would embarrass any of your more modern diesels.

1/2 a litre of petrol in yer tank next time yer fill up to clean the goo off yer injectors

if yer want to get your smoke emissions down for MOT change yer airfilter and give it a hard thrashing on the way to the test, i used to have to take customers cars out when they wouldn't pass the smoke test, i took a sierra 2.3 dooozel out because the smoke meter kept sooting up while we were trying to test it, i hoofed it when i got just up the road and i lost the car behind!!!! james bond eat yer heart out!! after a thrash it passed the test :D

Castrol R smells better.
May be so,but big bangers are becoming a rare sight at "Classic trials" now,and most cider tubs just bloody stink cos they just burn off whatever is leaking down the fins at the time.
The next build I do will be a rigid AMC or possibly a B32 all alloy rigid if I can persuade my neighbour to part with it.
Trouble is the sections are getting harder and the rigid owners are finding it hard work,so they either ride the James/Fanny B creations or the ultra lightweight rigid Bantams.I want to ride a rigid before I'm too old to make the most of it.:)

Hope you have strong knees, your surely going to need them. Good luck.

I'm just going to be careful which trials I ride on it - any of the more difficult venues I'll stick to using one of my trusty TY250's or the TY175/XT225 Serow Hybrid you can see being built in my avatar pic.
I'd only ride the B route on a rigid,no desire to be a hero.....

OOOOO me knees they is hurtin jest tinkin @ it,,,in my teens i used to ride a ariel nh 350 road bike converted to trials spec, then a tiger cub, after a gap of 20 years i went back to it with the lad,i bought a 360 bultaco,in a miller frame-detuned pursang engine ,,,my god never bin so **** scared in my life it had a rocket up its arse ffs,so it rebuilt a old c15t aaah thats better slow an steady thats me,trouble is i is to feckin old, no tooooo much hurts-------i feckin hate gettin old b-st-rd.........dave
