Hi Peeps
Well I have had my disco for 4 months now and love it too bits, as do my son daughter and even my wife who is heard to say regularly "I love the Landy" and she totally hates petrol / diesel vehicles.
I have two questions.
1. when i turn the ignition on i can hear a fan / relay / not quite a buzzing noise behind the driver side dash air vent, the one on the right of the speedo / display, when I start the engine i cannot tell if it is still making the noise, at first i thought it was the little speaker on the windscreen column but its coming from behind the dash.
Any ideas what it is?
2. Every now and then (and I have read it happens to others) when pulling away, sometimes with a cold engine and sometimes with warm, it is sluggish (very), as if the 3 amigos were showing and it is in limp mode, I have read about the xyz switch getting aircon condensation dripping on it (I haven't used the aircon myself) and causing problems, does it cause this?
The vehicle was off road for around a year before I got it, it had been under cover half that time, otherwise it drives well, sounds sweet (now the split turbo hose has been replaced) and it is my 4x4 armchair.
Is this common, is there an easy fix / bodge or is this just something i need to get used too?
If I rev the engine a few times before pulling away when it happens it usually sorts it but when pulling out at say a junction it can be a real pain in the arris.

The answer to your first question about the little fan is that it's the temperature sensor for the climate control system. air is drawn in and over the sensor from the cabin by a little fan. If the noise becomes too intrusive you can remove it and clean it out fairly easily.
Second question, but I don't have an automatic Disco. Problems with the XYZ switch usually bring up the M+S lights on the dashboard. The 3 amigos; ABS, HDC and TC lights are more often than not either a speed sensor on one of the wheel hubs or a problem with the ABS modulator. The only way to diagnose definitively the cause is to get the fault codes read.

Hi Karrier bag,

the fan noise is the cabin temperature sensor fan, if you do a search you will find a few how to on how to clean it. 10 minutes work if you have small hands and a socket set.
Ref the XYZ switch, I aint got an auto so no idea, but are you sure you have not been using the aircon?????

Cheers

Thanks for the quick replies :)
and in no sense of order, my replies.
1. no have not used air con at all, not even tried it out.
2. ah the fan noise now makes sense thank you all three of you
3. i will change box oil, thank you I hadn't thought of that, I have never had an auto before and that is a learning curve as have always been a manual kinda bloke.
4. I have had the 3 amegos and that was due to a knackered hub bearing so replaced hub and sensor and it sorted it out no other faults were showing apart from.....

5. I have just realised, I had got so used to it being on all the time i forgot, the box temp warning light is always on, from very cold start up and well.. always, i was told it was just the sensor, i did a google and see the UK version only has one sensor and the US model has 2, is this an easy fix?
Oh and I haven't downloaded the Rav file yet as i am on a mobile data connection but will asap.
